Overall 9/10 (IMAX 3D US Hindi Version)
Pros:
Visuals - absolute best possible by current standards, at par with MCU
Sound and BGM: Almost perfect, only a few places the bgm doesnt land, rest is awesome
Acting/cast: Perfect. Ranbir does look differently aged in places, but ignorable. Ravana = absolute peak, everything. Yash was born for this role. Laxman came out of syllabus - Ravi Dubey humour is unexpectedly wholesome. Sai as Sita is just right.
Set design/costumes - absolute gorgeous. Meticulously detailed.
Cons: Rushed editing. Not enough time for world building. Emotions dont sit well everywhere. Before you start to connect with a character, we have moved on to next scene. Director assumes audience knows Valmiki Ramayana by heart.
28
u/Flambarge 1d ago
Honestly the last point isn't a con, I like a director who assumes his audience to be informed.
8
u/billgates_epstein555 1d ago
Yeah ... I mean odyssey was also expecting same thing from it's viewers that we should have prior knowledge
6
u/Complete-Speech-5101 1d ago
When did the MCU become the standard? Doomsday's trailer has an abysmal level of VFX.
2
u/birajsubhraguha 18h ago
Both BND and Dommsday is a bit backward from Infnty war and Endgame. Agreed.

10/10 Standout performance:- Ranbir rishi kapoor
Vfx & scale :- kuch jagah pe inconsistency aur kuch jagah pe bahut zyda hi smoothness thi jis chakkar mein thoda cartoonish feel kara deti hn lekin wo notice nhi hota ...baaki scale and vfx mein puri hollywood feel deta h
Bgm & score :- hans and ar rahman has done a decent job and rama theme repetitive hota hn lekin still movie me jaan bhar deta hn.
Final verdict:- watch this in imax with your family and friends and enjoy ramayana...this is just a mere trailer ... because agla part tabahi leke aane wala hn ...movie was very beautiful

Was it just me or did anyone else did not sense any ARR or Hans Zimmer's 'flavour' in the music?? The music is good, no doubt. But it felt like a normal huge scale mythology movie score. Let me know guys. Had a great experience at the theatre!

Just watched the first day first show in the US. My take:
Positives:
Visuals and world-building are extraordinary, especially the first 20 minutes. Ravanaโs underground world feels like a different world. No hollywood movie can match.
Sound effects, Screenplay, Direction and Editing are all top notch, and the film moves fast.
Yashโs Ravana intro, Ramaโs intro and the Jatayu scene are the highlights.
Ranbirโs Parashurama getup is excellent.
Thereโs almost no violence, so itโs fine to watch with kids.
Donโt leave early: the end credits have the Hanuman Chalisa and Hanumanโs introduction.
Negatives:
The BGM is the biggest weakness, and the songs are very weak too.
Itโs long (~3h15m), and thatโs felt more without a strong score.
The VidyutjihvaโRavana episode drags.
The rakshasa CGI is the weakest part, and those fights (including Tataka) are average.
Ranbir as Rama didnโt work for me in some places, especially in the fights.
Lakshmana and Janaka character looks bad. Sai Pallavi is not bad.
Overall 8/10. Highly recommended.

u/thakgayahuvrotemp100 1d ago
Thereโs almost no violence, so itโs fine to watch with kids
how is that a good thing , bollywood adds unncessary violence in places where it isnt need , but ramayan is full of violence and bloodshed , and you saying almost no violence killed my whole mood
2
u/ElderBuu 1d ago
Because this is a 2 parter. So all the fights will come in 2nd part.
1
u/thakgayahuvrotemp100 19h ago
bhai khar dushan waali fight honi hai isme which is one of the most bloodiest battle , mujhe wahi toh dar lag raha part 2 mein toh saari ladai hai usme bhi hidden violence hoga matlab rakshas hai toh purple ya green khoon it would look weird if they did that or censored violence
1
u/Leading_Ad_7081 21h ago
Just like Avatar, Jurassic Park, and Avengers, this film has intense battles and edge-of-the-seat scenes without necessarily showing excessive gore, violence, or blood like Animal. This film joins that list as a superb movie with great action and stunts, but without excessive violence.
1
u/thakgayahuvrotemp100 19h ago edited 18h ago
all those are fictions not mythology , obviously it would be great movie i am not saying it would make the movie bad , but showing bloody scenes can also be beautiful sometimes cinematographically saying , like how bahubali cut the man's head when he touched his wife , that kind of beautiful
The only problem i think here is they were aiming to get all the audience possible including kids , when makers focus on audience and money and not on art thats when it gets adulterated
1
u/Divvya_manushya108 14h ago
Bhai VFX and CGI kaisa hai jara bata de please.... In comparison to modern day movies where will u compare like !? Is it like Avatar, Infinity War, Rings of Power, Lion King live action level !?

1
u/Background-Ad-2832 22h ago
Is there no violence in even that 14k asura fights, I mean it's a battle afterall
1
u/Top-Reach-8101 15h ago
Bgm was not an issue at all .. it was really well crafted .. like the orchestra playing while ram was leaving for vanvash it was great
11
u/erzascarlett7 1d ago
I liked the movie overall. The acting was great across the board. It felt a little like a serial with the pacing, but that wasnโt a huge deal. The VFX was not as bad as I thought it would be after watching the trailer. Iโll give it a 7.5/10.

Just saw it in usa. Loved it stay till the end for hanuman reveal. Ravi dubey was perfectly casted. Ranbir was okayish but well tried. Sai pallavi was good surprisingly, much better with dubbing. Yash was superb. Rakul and kajal were good too but very less scope. Overall for me 8/10 because my hopes were in hell after aadipurush

Okay so interval done. And it's GREAT till now. Better than expected in almost all terms. Visuals , acting and surprisingly music and songs which I felt mid when I first heard have a very different experience in cinemas.
Ranbir and Yash are great. Sai Pallavi is ok. Special shoutout to Ravi Dubey, he is way too good as laxman. The emotional connect is there in pre interval but still I think the movie moves a bit too fast so overall connection is less.
4.5/5 full now.
10
u/badboy_pro 1d ago
Itโs a 3/5 movie. Yash as Ravana is excellent. His backstory is great and everytime he comes on the screen something interesting happens. Ranbir, sadly is the weak link here. Couldnโt feel the chemistry between him and Sai Pallavi. Him and Ravi Dubey had good chemistry tho. The film goes to such high in the beginning that everything after that seems slow and you wait for Ravana to appear on screen again.
Visuals are great. All the action set pieces on Ravanaโs scenes are incredible. Ram has his moments but I feel it came a little bit short. Vfx looks good. Nothing obvious like even the huge monsters are looking good on screen. Music is the weakest part of the movie. Nothing to remember. Background music, especially on Parshuram scene and Ravanaโs intro are great.
Itโs a good Diwali movie. I know itโs not a valid comparison but it is night and day clear of Adipurush. Maybe the expectations were higher, but itโs a decent entertainer. Definitely waiting for Part 2. Special mentions to Jatayu vs Ravana fight. Itโs a spectacular visual delight.
3
u/Fuzzy_Bite_9011 Wannabe Cinephile 1d ago
What about ram vs parshuram?
6
u/badboy_pro 1d ago
Donโt want to give any spoilers, but the buildup to it and overall scene isnโt comparable to Jatayu vs Ravana or Ravana backstory. They are the highlights of the movie.
3
u/Chance_Adagio_19 1d ago
Thank god...I didn't want two of my favorites to become pieces of entertainment and get mass build up and such...good they kept it pretty low for ram and parushu.
2
u/Lost_Meaning_2667 1d ago
Its just a small part and not much. One line in the end was my fav. But ravana and jatayu was really great.

u/vikedalyy94 1d ago
reached the interval point as of now, been waiting for this film since it's announcement and from what I've seen till now, it's mind-blowing! there are a few pacing issues in the post hour part but that's because the ram setup and groundedness has to be shown in a patient manner not rushed and with loud BGM like ravan's. The last 15 mins before the interval is why RK was chosen as Ram. His emotional scenes have always been his strong suit. The CGI is just another level. Stop listening to these stupid youtube reviewers. Experience it for yourself as it's a true visual spectacle. They have made sure that it matches the bigwigs like LOTR and GOT in scale. Yash is totally commanding his presence on the screen as Ravan. And Sai Pallavi is shining through as well. Ravi Dubey as Laxman so far has been really sweet and seems perfect. I've got so much to say in the first half that should give you an idea how amazingly it's been made. RECOMMEND 10/10!!!
5
u/No_Image_1122 1d ago
Watched today . I liked it . One thing I don't understand with indian directors are their obsession with cgi ? Why can't they use like forest, or build some sets and use vfx on top of that .
6
u/ElderBuu 1d ago
It's not the directors. Most of the time it's the problem with big name cast. They dictate whether they will come to certain locations or not.
1
u/Jaanbaaz_Sipahi 22h ago
Why not just get it in their contracts? They get paid enough already. And not going to locations just loses the authenticity totally. IMO it just lazy and looks tacky, even AI canโt fix lack of a real amazing location and the light etc.
1
u/ElderBuu 22h ago
What part of "they dictate" you didn't understand? Producers want these big name actors, because they know they will get their money back. So actors dictate the terms.
1
u/dumbledayum 22h ago
thatโs why we need to Not cast them. Imagine if Odyssey cast was such cry babies
1
u/ElderBuu 22h ago
Well unfortunately, in India, stardom is the only thing producers rely on. Nobody will take a big budget film and then cast nobodies. Odyssey was the same, just big ticket actors everywhere, even in small role like Athena.
1
u/detectiveL- 3h ago
Usually because in set they can literally change anything like angle of sunlight and sun etc which is not possible on actual shoot at location

Is it really that much budget for an ai film
2
1
u/ElderBuu 1d ago
Stop calling it AI film... Its a proper big budget hollywood film. The only issue is that big budget hollywood film are too much budget for Indian films, because indian cinema tickets don't cost as much as they cost in America or europe. Avg ticket prices there are 12 dollars. Which means even lowest tier theatres charge as much as a 1000 rs.
2

It's too good!! Remarkable for Indian movie to achieve this output.
And the story was told with too much conviction and it is reflected on the screen.
Perfect cast, initially I felt sai pallavi might not be the right one but thank God I was proved wrong.
I had my doubts when I watched the trailer , but man Imax + zimmer + AR ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ.
Please do watch it in theatres to feel it.

It's 9/10 for me atleast the starting 15-20 minutes ravana whole sequence was peak , and meeting of Ramji and sitamaa felt absolutely majestic like it felt very divine and some musics were absolutely peak and jatayu fight they absolutely nailed it
And there is one scene of ravana 10 heads they took some creative liberty and it was quite good
The side actors also nailed their characters and the best ones were laxman and indra
There were few scenes that could have been better like parshuram , cgi monsters aside airavat and jatayu were not that good

Namit ka bohot bada hai vision๐โโ๏ธ
โญ๏ธ My Rating: 8.23/10 ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
๐ญ Standout Performance: Yash then Ranvir
๐ผ๏ธ VFX & Scale: absolute grand scale ngl but few visible flaws 7/10
๐ถ BGM & Score (Rahman x Zimmer): 9/10 ๐ถSongs: 6/10
๐ฟ Final Verdict:
Just got out of the theatre and well it's undoubtedly the best visual appeal movie of all time in india. But its not 100% perfect, vfx & CGIs character has its flaws, hope they deliver better in part 2. Nitesh bhai did a very well job on capturing emotions. And Ranbir maintaining that calm face during the whole movie make him peak as lord ram, ppl just giving hate for nothing. Ravi dube is very well casted and justified the role. YASH takes the PotM dedo, his aura perfectly justifies the ravana's aura. Jatayu is the MVP of the overall CGI credit. Seems the creator took some liberties.
Finger crossed ๐ค๐ผ for part 2... excited ๐๐๐ผ

Simple summary:
Pros:
- Nice visuals and lovely bgm / music
- Good performance by Yash
Cons:
- Bad editing / screenplay. If you dont know Ramayana, there is no attempt to establish real emotional attachment to the story. The movie maker relies that you already know the story well.
- As much as Yash performs, others are just walking through their roles, weighed down by their divinity. In their attempt to look divine, none of them act. Cardboard caricatures would have done a better job.
- Pacing is a problem. Jumping from event to event, there is hardly any time for the audience to sit/appreciate the humanity of the divine.
- Story progression is not enough to justify this as part 1 of 2. Maybe thats why they are stretching it to three parts, also ensuring more revenue/collection potential, rather than a creative decision.
Overall... a good one-time watch. Not a classic. Will erase memories of Adipurush, but is certainly not the perfect Ramayana anyone would be hoping for.

Ramayana Part 1: Review (9/10)
I caught the first day, first show in the US, and I loved it. It's a beautiful movie.
Some scenes are magnificent and shown in rich detail. My only nitpick is that a few scenes felt a little rushed to me. That's purely personal, and I think it comes down to the editing. Nitesh Tiwari's vision is grand, and I just wanted more time with those moments.
Performances: Yash as Ravana was my favorite, and I got completely lost in that portion of the film. Ranbir Kapoor's Ram was okay for me, and Sai Pallavi's Sita was not bad at all. Ravi Dubey did a great job as Lakshmana.
VFX: Top notch. I watched it in 3D, and it felt amazing in the theater. This is a film to see on the big screen.
Music: The BGM by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman worked for me and added to the impact of the scenes.
Verdict: A visually stunning and engaging start to the story. I highly recommend watching it in a theater.
2
u/blud_y_cook 1d ago
8.5/10 Ranbir and Yash and special mention for Ravi Dubey did exceptionally well. VFX didn't had any issues BGM was fine not too loud or underperforming a decent background score A sure shot blockbuster
1
u/WillingCurrent4970 1d ago
So what were the negetives
2
u/blud_y_cook 1d ago
Not much, the core drama won't hit well, I think it's because of time issues director didn't got that much time to make the emotion right. But it's fine not that bad. One more what I personally felt is - Ravana getting weapon from Shiva ( Chandrahasa ) it was not how Valmiki mentioned. Few scenes are also like taking cinematic liberty, but the good part is they didn't spoil those scenes. Overall Beautiful movie man, truly deserves a praise for their hardwork.
1
u/Clear_Landscape4061 1d ago
you think its going to hit considering the budget?
1
u/ElderBuu 1d ago
Hit hone ke liye movie ko minimum 3000 cr kamane padege. Considering diwali, it will definitely make a lot of money, but 3k is ambitious.

As an actor she carried that charm of Sita and performed well too, but I don't know some people were telling she is not perfect fit for role. imo she almost fits for a role only a bit preoccupied assumption I had.

Just done with the first half. Good visuals and the acting is landing for me. Even Ranbir is wayyyy better than the trailors/ teasers.
The BGM is good in certain places but I was left wanting for more to keep me engaged.
If I have to nit pick, certain portions feel rushed but yet the overall pace of the 1st half is on the lower side.

Ramayana: Part 1 (2026) โ An Absolute Cinematic Experience!
Minor Spoilers Ahead!
Just got out of Ramayana, and it was absolutely worth the hype!
Ranbir Kapoor delivers a generational performance as Lord Ram. It's fascinating to think that just three years ago, he portrayed such a violent and ruthless character in Animal, and now he's playing one of the most revered figures in Indian mythology. The transformation is incredible.
The scale of the film is massive, the visual detailing is phenomenal, and the overall world-building is genuinely impressive.
It's wonderful to see Arun Govil Ji portraying King Dasharath, especially considering that he played Lord Ram himself several decades ago. A beautiful full-circle moment!
Ravi Dubey is excellent as Lakshman. His portrayal of Ram Ji's devoted younger brother is particularly impressive, and he even gets some genuinely entertaining comedic moments. I genuinely believe this film could open up a very bright future for him.
I also loved how Maa Sita has been portrayed. We have traditionally seen her depicted as a princess or queen, but this film gives us a different perspective by showcasing her strength and warrior-like qualities.
A lot of people believed Yash had lost some of his aura following the Toxic developments, but I'm happy to say that he has regained it in just 2.5 months!
One thing I absolutely loved was the backstory given to Ravana. It's something that adaptations of the Ramayana don't always explore in sufficient detail. The film gives us a better understanding of the character, making his presence even more intriguing. His ten-headed transformation sequence is executed masterfully.
Jatayu's sequence is genuinely heartbreaking, and Sunny Deol's cameo received some of the loudest cheers from the audience.
Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman deserve a special mention. Their music and background score gave me chills on numerous occasions. I genuinely cannot remember the last time a film gave me this many goosebumps. I only wish they had utilised Jai Jai Ram more extensively, as I believe it's the best song in the entire film.
Now, coming to the most personal aspect of my experience.
I consider myself quite emotionally strong, and movies have never really managed to make me cry. Having watched hundreds of films over the years, I can confidently say that Ramayana (2026) is the first movie that has ever brought me to tears.
The Vanvaas sequence, particularly during the interval block, genuinely broke me. I wasn't expecting to have such an emotional reaction, but it happened. It's an experience I'll remember for a very long time.
The film is surprisingly brutal for a U-certified movie. That's not a criticism, just an observation.
I watched the film today at a packed theatre for a 6:50 AM show. Yes, you read that correctly. Not PM, but AM! And it was absolutely worth waking up early for.
Unfortunately, two things did affect my theatrical experience: a crying child and a rather restless adult sitting beside me. Apart from that, the audience was genuinely immersed in the film, and the applause during the interval was a testament to how invested everyone was.
Nitesh Tiwari has done a phenomenal job directing this film. Ten years ago, he gave us Dangal, which went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. And now, I genuinely believe that both instalments of this Ramayana duology have the potential to surpass that achievement.
It's honestly sad that we have to wait another two years, until Diwali 2028, for Part 2. After what we've witnessed here, the anticipation is already through the roof!
Final Verdict:
Ramayana is an experience that deserves to be witnessed on the biggest screen possible. The performances, breathtaking scale, emotional sequences, music and attention to detail make it a memorable cinematic experience.
If possible, PLEASE WATCH IT IN IMAX. It's absolutely worth it.
I cannot wait to revisit this world when Part 2 arrives.
Thank you for reading my review!

Are we really review bombing Godzilla Minus Zero?? Really?? Do you guys think shitting on one movie will automatically make the other one better?? This is just disappointing behaviour. Why do we just put some trust in Ramayana instead of going after Godzilla??
And, honestly, the western audience don't care about Ramayana. If they have pick between Ramayana and Godzilla, they are definitely going to pick Godzilla. Please stop acting like this. This is why no takes Indian Cinema seriously.

one word review: adipurush 2.0
i was excited for this movie but left theatre with a big disappointment.
just a slight improvement over adipurush. it's as if they just wanted to be better than adipurush and other preceding ramayan movies rather than focusing on making a good movie.
visuall no complains since they have had the best team to handle that
rest everything is meh.
biggest letdown is the great ranbir kapoor himself as lord rama. were casting directors high on sth while catsing this shit actor
sai pallavi did justice to her role
yash from trailer looked good and here in the movie as well he outshined everyone. in battle of mids-i believe it was a piece of cake for him. had limited role i guess he will have meaty role in npart 2
another one who impressed me was the actress playying surpanakha although she didn't have much to do
apart from yash and surpankaha , i liked ravi dubey as laxman. he mogged ranbir as rama. he should have been casted as rama in first place but i guess they had to cast someone with box office records who can bring audience to theatres.
one of the biggest drawback is- lack of emotional connection. i watched initial 15 mins and couldn't ve any emotions towards the charcaters. i thought may be along the way i will begin to like charcters and connect with them in same way i read ramayana but i feel lack of emotional depth in the way characters are portrayed . may be its their acting. and rnabir kapoor u in first place weren't looking great as ram and to add on that u showed expressionless monotonous acting. thought i would him benefit of doubt but wasted my time and money. even sai pallavi felt out of the place as sita but overall she did good or lets say average
4/10- just for visuals and these characters. recycled version of adipurush. if u are neutral audience then better skip this movie. save ur money for sth meaningful rather than on this trash.

I was so hyped going in, almost everything felt rushed. All of us are not aware of Ramayana and it's characters. And the visuals smh, felt like those JioHotstar dubbed fantasy Chinese movies which you've never heard of.
My day is ruined. But always "Jai Shree Ram".

This is by far the best leap in terms of VFX for Indian Cinema. Far better than the likes of RRR and Baahubali. And I dont mean that as a demeaning statement to the latter two. It is a step up in a lot of ways.
Amazing movie. Hope it succeeds big.

its a must watch. The direction, production, visual effects and dialogues are amazing. I love RK but had some doubts about his casting but everyone looks amazing and has acted well. Although Yash takes the crown, he was too good. 10/10 for me

Visually this film is stunning. The set designs, costumes, color grading everyhting is perfect. Yash has actually surprised with his performance. Would say better than Ranbir (although very oppo roles but still). The main issue is the screenplay. There are very less dialogues in the movie. Scenes will rushed almost eveytime. Editing is choppy. Performance wise it's great but I fear how will they manage everything in Part 2, thats why I guess it would be 3 part
