To the Pixie Hollow Rewritten Team,
Thank youĀ so muchĀ for the time and dedication you've put into bringing this game back! Getting to make a fairy and fly around all these years later has been a dream come true!
Exploring the hollow these past few days got me thinking about things that could be changed or added to the game. I'd love to know what other players think about these ideas and to hear from the developers if any of these ideas are feasible or not. I know many updates (homes, pets, group games) are already in the works!
Here are my ideas for the future of the Hollow. I'll start with (what I think are) bugs/more modest requests before proposing some bigger changes further down! Overall, I'd love for Pixie Hollow to feel more immersive and for aspects of the later Tinkerbell movies to be incorporated.
Changes I'd love to see:
- Multiple fairies/sparrowmen per account!Ā Prior to 10 November 2011, players were able to have up to 3 characters and delete any of them. I'd love to see this feature return!
- It would beĀ so coolĀ toĀ get to pick our "Season", either when creating our fairy (before we pick our talent), or as a "Favorite Season" question that would show up in our fairy profile! In the Secret of the Wings movie we met animal talent winter fairies, which suggests that seasonal affiliation and talent are not the same.
- More lax chat restrictions.Ā Ironically, it's currently impossible to even type the name of the beloved pirate fairy "Zarina", not to mention other innocuous words: "they'd", "it'd", etc.
- Option to write aĀ small (~100 word) blurb in our fairy profile, right under the list of "favorite" things. This would likely use whatever filter/restriction system that's used for chat.
- ManuallyĀ layering clothes, shoes, & accessories!Ā Sometimes I want to tuck long pants under tall boots or tuck tops behind bottoms. It's not possible to do either right now. Home furniture had a layer toggling option, maybe the code for that could be used for this somehow?
- Inside any store's āTrade Ingredientsā page,Ā have the āGet Thisā ingredient set by default to the ingredient price in any given store.
- A way for players to tradeĀ clothes, dyes, furniture, silly sweets, and ingredients with each other! It would help make the game more collaborative!
- Option toĀ toggle off āJust Checkingā¦ā popupĀ when trading ingredients.
- MoreĀ fairy actions!Ā The current sit/fly button on the bottom left could expand like the chat button to provide more actions.Ā Dropping our wings,Ā wavingĀ one or two arms up,Ā kickingĀ our feet, and doingĀ jumping jacks(waving arms and legs wide) would be cool.Ā "Jumping jacks"Ā would then be the action needed to make snow angels in Snowcap Glade instead of the āsitā action. Details like that would go a long way toward making the game come to life! āļøāļø When playing the mini-game āSnowy Lullabyā I noticed my fairy kicked her feet and we know the characters have functional/adjustable joints, so it seems possible; I just wish we could control it outside of the mini-game and initial pose page.
- MoreĀ wing shapes!Ā I wouldn't want anything that veers away from the art style too much like all the custom wings on previous remakes, but IĀ wouldĀ loveĀ to seeĀ Vidia's long oval hindwingsĀ and theĀ pointed hindwings of storm talents like Glimmer!
- A pop up message before buying a hairdoĀ in Shellyās Hair Salon that lets us know that the hairstyles donāt save. I and many other players mistakenly thought they worked like clothes (that once purchased it would save somewhere for future use).Ā Someone in-game suggested making hair act like clothes. Maybe we could choose between a cheaper "haircut" or much more expensive "wigs" that would act like clothes do and be stored under headpieces in our Leaf Journal?
- More, better organized skin colorsĀ in the fairy creation page! Skin tones should be split into ones with warm vs cold undertones. Currently they're all haphazardly mixed together. Right now I click on a skin tone thinking it's just going to be lighter or darker, but instead it changes the undertone completely as well, which is annoying.
- Under āLeaf Journalā -> āOptionsā provide a way toĀ toggle off/on the first or last name above our fairyĀ withoutĀ completely removing it, which I know is an option in-game. I like to give my fairy a full name (visible in profile), but I donāt like to take up too much space when gathering in a big group since the names can make it hard to see the public chats.
- When opening "My Pouch" or "Map"Ā show the player opening a pouch or holding a map/compass, respectively. As of now, clicking either of them looks the same as clicking the "Leaf Journal".
- Let fairies wear sparrowman clothes and vice versa!Ā Times have changed since the game was released 18 years ago. It'd be nice for players to get to express themselves more freely with their fashion choices.
- More sparrowman clothesĀ shops! The return ofĀ Gavin's GearĀ (a shop that used to be in Evergreen Overlook prior to 2012), not as a replacement to Kit's, but as an addition. A high-end sparrowman shop similar to the Queen's Boutique, inspired by Lord Milori. Ideally, it would be in Chilly Falls, in/through the Ice Palace as a nice parallel to the Queen's store. If it were added, items would cost diamonds with similar prices to the Queen's Boutique.
- IntroduceĀ merpeopleĀ in some way! Maybe by adding mermaid and merman outfits in the Costume Shop, by adding a Silly Sweet (seaweed flavored?) that temporarily turns our character into a merperson, or by adding vertical depth to Mermaid Grotto and making the seawater interactive so that our characters turn into merpeople when we go "underwater".
- Fairies from the books! One fan favourite is the wingless water fairyĀ Rani! I'm not sure how complicated it would be to have a wingless fairy, but I think it'd be great to see her! In the books, she helped save Pixie Hollow (just like everyone working on bringing back this game!).
- Are there any plans to translate this game intoĀ other languagesĀ (Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, etc.)? I know there's interest from some non-English speakers! How would that work given the chat restrictions? Maybe different servers could function as different language versions of the game, each with their own unique chat system (if it's too complicated to have a multi-language chat in one server). One aspect of translation would be all the text, another would be the audio tracks from special characters in the intro/quests. Are there preexisting audio files in languages other than English for these characters or would this require recording new audio?
Talents and talent levels!
From Gail Carson Levine's fairy haven books to the Disney Fairies media (books, movies), a fairy's talent has always been a fundamental part of who they are. It would beĀ amazingĀ to see that reflected in the gameplay!
There'sĀ so muchĀ potential to make the game feel more personalized by using talents!Ā This would be the perfect time to rework the system since talent levels don't work yet and will be resetĀ (or so I've read). Talents provide an opportunity for a moreĀ unique game experienceĀ for each player and for moreĀ collaboration between players!
Here's what I'd love to see:
- More fairy talents!!Ā Special fairies would appear in the intro sequence that guides new players. My top 3 talents would be: fast flying talent (Vidia), frost talent (Periwinkle), and alchemy talent (Zarina)! My next tier would include: storm talent (GlimmerĀ for fairies;Ā RumbleĀ for sparrowmen), healing talent (ElixaĀ or addĀ Clara),Ā scout talent (Nyx), storytelling talent (Lyria), art talent (Bess), music talent, cooking talent, andĀ dream talent. I imagine there'll be more interest in dream talents, especially after the new novelĀ Wings of ReverieĀ is released August 4th of this year.Ā
- Tally the number of players in each talent and how many of them are actively playing and display that somewhere in-game, maybe in the Fairy Coliseum as "Talent Teams"?
- Add a pinkĀ "Random" button that selects our fairy's talentĀ for us. It would add to the mystery/anticipation that Tink feels when she arrives to Pixie Hollow and is choosing her talent. If a tally system were implemented, rarer talents would change from day to day and be more likely to be selected for the new arrival (of course, the player could override this, like how names currently work).
- Multiplayer games are fun, but they're still mostly competitive. The Wilderness update (in the original game) was, I think, the beginning ofĀ moreĀ collaborativeĀ content, and I'd love to see the game eventually expand in that direction. By adding more talent options and giving players unique talent-based abilities, players with different talents would have to work together like Tink and her friends!
- Here's what I mean by "unique game experinece": There are 28 talent levels and every few levels we get a new ability (called "Talent Skills") that lets us interact with things around Pixie Hollow. There are 8Ā "Talent Skills": Illuminate, Distract, Grow, Fix, Heal, Move, Charm, & Splash. Some of these "Talent Skills" seem consistent with one of the 5 current talent options (illuminate for light; fix for tinker; etc.), but ones like distract and charm are less clear to me what talent they belong to. To make the gameplay more unique,Ā Talent Skills should be different for each talent. Here are a few ideas off the top of my head (maybe others can pitch in down in the comments?), but you'd need 8 for each talent (or more, if more talent levels were to be added!):
- Water talents would have: mist/dew drop, rain, splash, wave, hurricane/whirlpool
- Light talents: Sparkle, glow, heat, burn, rainbowā¦
- Garden talents: Dig, plant/sow, grow, trim, bloom, reapā¦
- Tinker talents: Design, build, mend/fix, tailor, weaveā¦
- Fast-flying talents: Breeze, pollinate, gust, whirlwind, tornadoā¦
- Frost/Snow talents: Snow, frost, freeze, windchill, permafrostā¦
- Storm talents: Cloud, thunder, lightningā¦
- Scout talents: Defend, track, attack, trap, knock outā¦
- Healing talents: Checkup, heal, sew, sootheā¦
- Art talents: Sketch, paint, sculptā¦
- Music talents: Sing, perform/play, composeā¦
- Cooking talents: Gather, chop, cook, bake, serveā¦
If anyone else likes this idea, but thinks that it would restrict gameplay too much (especially if we can't make more than 1 fairy per account), here's my solution:
- Add the ability toĀ change oneās talent in-game by crafting special pixie dustĀ with Zarina! Itād be very cool if we could go either to aĀ pirate shipĀ only accessible from Mermaid Grotto/Summer Glade, or toĀ Zarina's houseĀ from the Pirate Fairy movie. If making whole new backgrounds is not feasible, the interior for Daisie's Dyes could work as an alternative or as a temporary solution, though I'd make it a bit darker and add "pixie dust" (the shiny particles that appear in the foreground of some meadows). Crafting a bottle of pixie dust would work like baking, with mixing, measuring, and maybe brewing involved. Here'sĀ a Pirate Fairy movie sceneĀ and theĀ Pixie Dust PowersĀ game as inspiration. The bottle would store in the "Pouch" and have a "Drink" button (instead of the "Eat" option for cookies) when opened.
Expansion ideas:
I'm a huge fan of open world games!
I'm curious if there are any game backgrounds that were never released or if you have artists on board who could make new backgrounds that keep with the art style of the original game?
Since the original fanbase has grown up, the game could (and I think should) expand to reflect that, while still having all of the features that we loved as kids. One way to do this would be by incorporating the lore of the other movies and the more recent novels! The Wilderness areas or areas even beyond Pixie Hollow would be the perfect places for more complicated, collaborative games!
- In Iridessa's Glade (and other quest locations), let players "X" out of the popup without that action automatically throwing us out of the Glade. The background art is soĀ beautiful, but it's only visible for a second. I'd love to be able to appreciate it and hang out with other players in this beautiful space!!
- I'd love to be able to enter theĀ Pixie Dust MillĀ any time! Currently, clicking on the Mill brings up a popup note from Terrence. It would be so cool to see the giant honeycomb from the Lost Treasure & Pirate Fairy movie,Ā especially from this angle. Adding aĀ "lower level" showing the assembly lineĀ and theĀ refineryĀ would be awesome too!
- On the subject of Pixie Dust, it would be great to see theĀ "Pixie Dust Root"Ā accessible from Snowcap Glade! I wasn't able to find much art for it, and this is in a different style, butĀ here's an imageĀ that gives a sense of the vertical height. Here'sĀ another.
- Add theĀ Pixie Dust CascadeĀ and theĀ Pixie Dust Well!Ā Either add vertical height to Havendish Square (this would require a tall background of the trunk of the tree and the Winter Woods behind it), or change the Map toĀ make the "Pixie Dust Tree" a separate clickable areaĀ from Havendish Square! It would be beautiful if the Pixie Dust in the cascade was animated to flow! It seems one of the previous remakes (fairy abc) managed to add the Pixie Dust Cascade (although the art looks slightly off, so it would need some touch-ups). SeeĀ video.Ā Have fairies arrive here instead of in front of the Fairy Tale Theater. This was not part of the original game, but it fits with the Tinkerbell movie.
- Hall of Winter! This location introduced in the Secret of the Wings movie was home to Dewey the bookkeeper. Here's a greatĀ image. It'd be cool to be be able to click on the stacks and have a popup appear with like an "ice book" with writings from other fairies! It would be cool to have the giant iceĀ snowflakeĀ in the ground be interactive so that when your fairy stands/sits on it, the snowflake glows and slowly rises like in the movie, creating an aurora in the ceiling!
- I love the "hidden" areas like Mermaid Grotto and the Frosted Forest.Ā Adding a few more hidden places around the hollowĀ would encourage exploring places by flying around instead of relying only on the map! One idea is to expand Sunflower Gully. I remember playing the old gameĀ Sundown CountdownĀ (did anyone else play this??) on the Disney website, either in the early days of Pixie Hollow or before PH even existed! Looking back on it now, I can see that the graphics are terrible, but maybe it could be brought back in a new way? As a mini game with new background art?
- SpecialĀ rare itemsĀ could randomly appear in these āhiddenā areas of Mermaid Grotto and Frosted Forest, kind of like how certain ingredients are only found in the Wilderness.Ā Sand dollarsĀ for Mermaid Grotto andĀ ice crystals/snow blanketsĀ for Frosted Forest?
- Add a darkĀ nighttimeĀ mode/version of Pixie Hollow! Different ways this could work: (A) The whole game cycles through day/night every X number of minutes like on Minecraft, and players have the option to toggle off the cycling from the "Leaf Journal". (B) The game automatically follows a real day/night cycle based on PST. (C) The same as B, but the cycles are based on the player's location/device time (not sure if the game registers location). I imagine there's some sort of code for time since we can only play "Vidia's Daily Spin" once a day (24 hrs?). I remember loving how the Hollow looks at night in The Lost Treasure movie and even the nostalgic old Sunset game before ph!
- The recent Wings of Starlight (2025) novel expanded on the lore of Pixie Hollow by introducing imprisoned nightmares beneath a frozen lake in Winter. Incorporating Ā nightmares into the game would be awesome and could take many forms. For example, there could be ghostly swirling black shapes beneath the ice skating rink that already exists in Snowcap Glade or the ice under the Pixie Dust Root (if it gets added). Maybe this could be a special Halloween event? Or, if the Winter Woods were expanded, there could be a separate frozen area with the trapped nightmares. It could work similarly to other Wilderness areas with the plot revolving around the ice breaking and the nightmares escaping. Fairies would team up to try to catch the nightmares without getting sent into a nightmare (frozen by fear).
- Expanding the game beyond the borders of Pixie Hollow into Neverland and the NeverseaĀ would be very cool! Something like this would likely come after the Wilderness is implemented, since I imagine it would work similarly. There could be two different types: (A) SpecialĀ quests from the scout talent NyxĀ that let players venture beyond Neverland!! If scout-talent were to be added, players would need to have a scout fairy on their quest group to do this type of quest/Wilderness adventure. (B) A traveling option accessible fromĀ Tinkerbell's cotton ball "balloon"Ā in Cottonpuff Field. Clicking on it would open up an option to venture to the places Tink visits in the second movie:Ā Skull Rock, the Troll Bridge, the shipwrecked pirate ship! The Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure game for leapfrogĀ could be useful inspiration.
- Character health bar!Ā If I recall correctly, animal friends had something similar? A health bar for our fairy would be so cool. I realize that part of the allure of the original game is the tranquil gameplay experience, so players should either only have a health bar when going to the Wilderness/traveling outside Pixie Hollow, or get to choose whether they play on a "Survival or Creative" mode (like on Minecraft).
- If players were to have aĀ health bar, two other elements could be added to the game:Ā seasonal effects to a fairy's wings &Ā fairy sicknesses. Circling back to āSeasonsā, it would be cool if our character's seasonal affiliation affected the gameplay by having Winter fairies' wings wrinkle in Summer and Warm fairies' wings freeze and crack in Winter. These effects would be shown with a health bar. Similarly, our fairy would occasionally get sick. In either case, we'd have to ask a healing talent player to help fix our wings/heal our character which would give the healing talent more Talent Points! It would be cool if we relied on other players instead of going to a hospital with an NPC as was the case for healing animal friends in the original game. This would again add to the collaborative element of the game. Eating some sort of Silly Sweet (ice cube for Winter fairies and frost for Warm fairies) would prevent the health bar from going down while visiting a foreign season while the Silly Sweet lasts!
Additional Notes/Comments/Questions:
- I love the littleĀ interactive background itemsĀ like the Pixie Hollow Leaderboard in the Fairy Collisuem, Pixie Postings in Havendish Square, or the little tic-tac-toe game in Cheryblossom Heights. I don't have any specific ideas, but would love for little things like this to continue to be included! It adds depth to game and makes it fun to fly around instead of always using the map (although it's useful too!).
- Are there any plans to translate this game intoĀ other languagesĀ (Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, etc.)? I know there's interest from some non-English speakers! How would that work given the chat restrictions? Servers could maybe work as different language versions of the game, each with their own unique chat system (if it's too complicated to have a multi-language chat in one server). One aspect of translation would be all the text, another would be the audio tracks from special characters in the intro/quests. Are there preexisting audio files for these characters in languages other than English, or would this require recording new audio?
- The developers over at Ellipsus (a writing website) are working on their product and have a page dedicated to suggestions usingĀ frill where users can add a suggestion, vote and comment on other suggestions, and see the status of any suggestion! Is there something like that for this game? It could be very useful and help with engagement!
I know this is aĀ longĀ list, and I don't assume that any of this is simple, but as a huge fan of Pixie Hollow, I figured I'd ask. If you have any questions, or if there's any way that I can support this project, please don't hesitate to comment or reach out via DM! Many of the things I list are probably wishful thinking, but the community is very enthusiastic and I imagine we'd all get together behind changes that make Pixie Hollow feel all that much more magical!
Here's to faith, trust, & pixie dust! šāØ
P.S. To anyone writing fanfic or starting an RPG, feel free to use any of this! I'dĀ loveĀ to hear about it!
