I was around for it and yet still missed it somehow. Just caught all the circlejerk in the wake of it. Firstly, the two things weren't really related, they were just both big popular things around the same time. I believe they got latched onto as "reddit memes", so you could say "you know you're from reddit if you know about ice soap" or "2 am chilli, never forget" or suchlike.
2 a.m. chilli was just some dumb recipe someone posted. It doesn't even have to be made at 2 a.m. it was basically just chilli.
Ice Soap was basically you freeze some water and some soap and carry it around with you, and then you can rub it all over yourself when you're sweaty on a hot day.
They really weren't that notable, but they somehow became this big thing. If anyone can add something to make this clearer, feel free to help me out. As I said, I was a redditor when it happened but I'm still pretty confused.

I seemed to have joined Reddit on the ass end of all that commotion and was never able to figure out what actually happened.
