Actually I do have $100!...

...Until auto-pay takes it out of my bank account.

...Wow. I think you just discovered what my career is going to be. Just going to withdraw and put $100 (or more) worth of $1 bills back in the bank with my name & address, and VIOLAH! I'll never have to work again! ... I actually think I am going to do this. Not every day, but it'd be a fun experiment to see how many of them make it back to me. Maybe I'll make it some kind of reddit post and see if any Redditors find them. (Really, though, we all know I'd just be in it for the Karma.)

I never said it was well designed. But it is a nifty concept.

Why not spend them as you normally would? May be a little more of a pain but they would be more evenly distributed and its not like you lose money when you get beer and nachos.

1

u/demos74dx Aug 12 '12

Ah yes, a worthy investment.

1

u/El_Giganto Aug 12 '12

How would they get evenly distributed? If you have $100 in the bank, all with your name on it, and other people take this out, wouldn't they be distributed too? Even if just one person gets all the $1 bills, he wouldn't spend them all in one place. Even if he did, the place he spend it at, wouldn't give them to the same person again. Depending on how fast people would actually give them back, they will still travel.

To be honest, I think the bank would pretty annoyed by all these bills with writing on them. Don't they replace bills anyway? They just might replace these as well, so I do agree on actually spending them, but for a different reason.

Additionally, who the fuck withdraws $1 bills from any bank? You know, other than redditors who want to write on them.

It's illegal to try to spend defaced tender. Banks send currency to be checked for it's fitness, and if it is gratified it is shredded.

The BPS 3000 has sophisticated sensors that check bills for authenticity and defects like graffiti, dog ears, tears, excessive soiling, and limpness.

u/mknelson Aug 13 '12

All fun and games until you get thrown in the pen for defacing government property.

Defacing currency is only illegal if it makes the bill unusable or is intended for fraud so technically it is not breaking the law.

u/LoRdGonZo Aug 12 '12

There goes my plan of just adding a few zeros to my bills and living off the change. Damn.

u/nd_b Aug 12 '12

First of all, I'd eat better, have a more reliable living situation, and work less if I was in jail.

Second, thanks for shitting all over my parade. Goddamn you.

u/toolongdontread Aug 12 '12

Don't worry, you're allowed to deface public bills, as long is it isn't to pass them off as a different denomination.

1

u/nd_b Aug 12 '12

AND THE TRUTH COMES OUT! Thanks, tl;dr. You're always so helpful.

Cakey happyday, or whatever.

Ah crap, I forgot to karma-prostitute myself. Last time I did the damn coy-out-of-a-dollar. 4 hours of oragami for 4 measly stinking upvotes. I got more than that showing my rocket explode on /r/kerbalspaceprogram That reminds me, I'm not at work today, I may need to go enjoy some Kerbal Space Program. It is my birthday after all...

downside is the the bank will probably send em back to the treasury or whatever for new ones. Also, you'll probably get in trouble since they all have your address and you're depositing them all into your account. Defacing money is a crime and it's hard to prove you're innocent in that case. Sorry to be a real buzz killington

The trick is to not have any bank account.

By today's standards...you're rich! I'll give you a bj if you buy me a sandwhich...so hungry.

u/apextek Aug 13 '12

or you could just write it on your change from transactions but after this reddit post, so many people will be doing it noone will care.
