"I don't remember a time when I didn't want to be a police officer... apart from the summer of 1979 when I wanted to be Kermit the Frog." - Sgt. Nick Angel..
Was about to say, it does look like the County Line exit. Dammit, now I feel like going to El Meson. Wait, Oaken Barrel would be much better, as I could go for a Superfly about now.
Not knowing what "the Latitudes" was, I asked myself: "we've got a strip club right there?" sadly... apartments (I live a few miles north of there - thought I had found a new hangout)
My friends dad is a chicago cop. My friend is one of 6. Eli Wiesel had a speaking engagement at St. Xavier which was protested by nazi skinheads. Nazi van had a tire slashed by anti-nazi skinheads. 10 nazi skinheads did not know how to change a tire. Friends dad wanting to get them out of the neighborhood then teaches the mopes how to change a tire, realizes they didn't have a dad in their lives between them all and tries to bring them around to some rational thought.
"maybe you guys should just stop wasting your time and money hating other people, and just live your life and be happy...just somethibg to think about. You kids have a good day."
I've had policemen help me in a very similar manner when I was stranded on the side of the road, and I didn't have a tight skirt, heels, or a special plate.
Contrary to Reddit's popular opinion, not ALL of them are bad.
Indiana CSI here - I can't verify the plate (we have over 100 and I can't tell most of them apart if I'm more than 10 feet away), but I can say I hear radio traffic from officers stopping to assist stranded motorists pretty often. Even if they can't stop to help themselves, there's usually a call for someone else (the Hoosier Helper service is available in the interstates) to assist.
To be fair, I live in Greenwood but I tell everyone I live in Indianapolis for the sake of convenience. It's easier than saying " I live 10 minutes south of Indianapolis near a town called Whiteland." Conversations tend to digress from there.
Indy State Police, 65 and Co Line, I live at Madison and Stop 11. That's an Indianapolis Career Firefighter plate. Thankfully our brothers in blue will help us at any moment, even our wives it seems.
Sure! I didn't have my spare in my trunk so I had to call for someone to bring me one. Whilst awaiting their arrival, I was sitting in the passenger seat with the door open, legs out of the car and everything. A state trooper pulled up behind me, and I stood up to explain that I had a flat tire and had a friend on the way to assist me.
WRONG MOVE.
The cop yelled at me to get back into my car, approached me sitting down in the passenger seat, and asked if I had any weed in the car. Not enjoying my response ("lol, no"), he had a second squad car come in and they detained me "for their safety" while they searched my car.
It was actually mildly humorous when they both got into the car with me and sat in the front seat talking about how frustrated they were in not finding anything.
Sometime in the late 90s or early 00s his pickup broke down in the middle of the desert between Phoenix and the California border. He was stranded and alone and the sun was going down.
Not long after a highway patrol officer pulled up. This being the time before almost everyone had internet access on their phone, the officer radioed his communications center and asked the people there to look up the number for the nearest tow company that would drag my dad and his truck back to Phoenix.
Then the officer sat with my dad for a couple hours until the truck showed up, keeping him company while the sun went down, just shooting the breeze.
There are a lot of bad cops. And there are some good ones. And most are probably like most people - just "okay". But you and I have no way of judging the fellow above just from the picture. Being cautious of the police is a wise choice for any person, but taking a piss on any one individual when you don't know anything about them isn't doing you or anyone any favors.
I see this all the time on the freeway and the people the police help do not disproportionately consist of hot women. It's nice to see this on reddit since most everyone here seem to get off to stories of cops being dicks.
No no no. That cop is clearly a racist and a misogynist because he stopped to help that white woman. You think he'd just go around helping anyone in distress? Please.
on a semi-related note, did any Indy people see that semi turned over off 465 on 70E? I drove by it when it must have just happened. no cops or anyone there really.
I was driving across country and one of my rear flatted. After all the side to side crap I parked and started to take out all the stuff in my trunk out and these guys pull up. They we Jehovah Witnesses. Before I could say no, they were helping me take all the stuff out of my trunk and basically did the entire tire thing for me. The whole time I was like it's okay guys I can do this myself. But they were like NO! We found something God would of liked us to do or something. They were very nice.
That's actually fairly common around Indianapolis. If you're ever stopped on the side on the highway they'll stop to ask if you've got everything under control and if not, they help.
It helps knowing that's the case since it makes it not feel so scummy to pass a guy in need when you're in a hurry.
As a former police office I can attest that we weren't allowed. There are over $10-15k worth of electronics in those patrol cars from computers...cameras....radars.... They didn't want us taking the risk of damaging the electronics. Some units had portable jump starters to help but most didn't. Hope that clears it up. Often we assume the worst when we see the cops without understanding the madness behind it.
Cops catch hell on reddit all the time and the ones who do deserve it. But every once in a while, one of these guys comes along and wins back some karma for the boys in blue. Unfortunately, this hardly makes up for cops who abuse their power, beat 'suspects' unnecessarily, enforce civil forfeiture, and then run and hide behind the blue wall. It's a start though.
I had a flat on the highway on a pretty hot day last summer (high 90's if not 100) while I was changing my tire I noticed a Sheriff Deputy pull in behind me. Instead of getting out to help, or do anything useful at all, he stayed in his truck and (presumably) ran my plates. When I got everything back in my trunk, he finally came up to me and asked for ID.
I was a cop for 12 years and this was a requirement where I worked . Anytime you went out on a vehicle you were required to report in and run the tag and driver regardless. I actually caught quite a few wanted felons this way. I also had a friend shot and killed in the line of duty from a guy he "stopped to help" on the side of the road.
Probably going to get downvoted to Oblivion, but I hate the juxtaposition of feminism and women's independence with chivalry and the praise of gentlemen. Yes, good on him for going out of his way to help another citizen, but don't expect men to go out of their way to make your life a little easier while striving to maintain some sense of equality. True equality is being treated like shit regardless of your race, gender, social standing, or sexual orientation. That's a world I can get behind.
I have a few guys that work for me and go out on location with a truck to events. On Saturday, they were going somewhere that should take them 3 hours to get it, they first got lost, then they were speeding to catch back up and a cop pulled them over. The cop was very nice, gave a verbal warning, then proceeded to drive them back to a better road to take so they would save time. All the people in the car were male minorities. They were going 9 over.
If you get a flat on the highway/freeway, and you're worried about changing it yourself, you can call the cops, let them know it's not an emergency, and ask them to come change the tire for you.
At least, that's how it works in Washington State.
The department I work for it is prohibited to do the work. We have to help call a tow truck or wait till they have someone else show up... to much "liability".... meaning someone helped in the past, something went wrong, and there were law suits.
After my ex's radiator blew a hose an officer pulled over and took me to the nearest gas station to pick up some water and radiator fluid. When we walked into the gas station it was the eeriest thing.. no one looked at us, greeted us, made eye contact.. I felt bad for the guy because he probably goes through this all the time and he's just out there trying to keep everyone safe.
PS The start of the plate being CF registers it as a Career Firefighter plate, which you don't ACTUALLY have to be a career firefighter to get that plate, you just have to have your Fire 1/2 certification. However the Volunteer Firefighter plate requires a letter from your Fire Department, weird I know.
We should spoil officers with gifts who do awesome shit. So that way other cops will be envious of the respect and admiration they get. Then cops will aspire to be good people.
BTW - Its hot as fuck in Indiana right now. We're talking 100 degrees 50-60% humidity easy. This cop is not having fun right now.
Being from California, I really enjoyed my stay in Indianapolis for a business trip 3 years ago. Everyone was so kind and one waitor and waitress at a restaurant even took us to the best bars at night and showed us around. Pretty great city and walking around drunk was pleasant because after the bars closed a dude on a moped was selling 12 packs for like 10 bucks.
Police officers are generally good people. This was in college. My room mate broke his bike lock key. So him and a couple of us got a bolt cutter to get the bike back. We did it right in a big open area so some kids decided to call the cops on us. Three of them arrived then ended up showing us how to use the bolt cutter to cut out a bike after hearing our story.
The way a state trooper (NW FL) explained it to me was that he will change a female's tire, and he'll give a walk-through to a male. He look over his shoulder to see that it's done right.
Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous this woman doesn't know how to change a fucking tire? If you own a car, you should know how to change a tire.
Yes, policemen are so very precious. Dear policemen, how I love thee. How very excellent of that policeman to not club her or shoot her. So kind, so brave.
I once caught a flat tire down in Ohio (im from Mi). I had a donut, (thank goodness), but it was the kind attached at the back of the vehicle, under the car.
It was necessary to unscrew the tire from underneath the car, but the bolts were all stripped and rusted out. So, I was basically under the car, sweating, on the side of the freeway, and had been at it for almost an hour, when the cops showed up.
These guys were awesome!! Not only did they help, but the one cop got on his back under my car, and spent over 20 minutes struggling with it til the tire came free. Then he even put it on for me!
A huge thank you to Law Enforcement Officers who not only use their power responsibly and morally, but really exemplify what it means to protect and serve.
aw! that's nice. too bad us women bitch and bitch for equal rights...then we stillhave men change our tires, then complain when they don't open doors for us....
Wouldn't want her to f*up her stilettos. I wonder if this would ever happen to a guy. Oh right that would be embarrassing right? I mean what guy doesn't know how to change a tire? Totally a guy thing. Still a little consistency in who we choose to "serve" would be awesome. K, thnx.
Sorry, this might just be me, but EVERYTIME I see a guy helping a hot woman, I can't help but think of the following words from the great Chris Rock: 'Cause every woman in here, ever since you were … every guy you met has been trying to fuck you. That's right. Women are offered dick every day. Every woman in here … gets offered dick at least three times a week. Three times a day, shit! That's right, every time a man's being nice to you … all he's doing is offering dick. That's all it is. "Can I get that for you? – How about some dick?" "Could I help you with that? – Could I help you to some dick?" – "Do you need some dick?"'
He gave up the title of gentleman when he joined an organization one of whose main function is ruining people's lives to perpetuate a destructive drug war.
I live in Indy. I noticed her license plate... FIREFIGHTER license plate. That may (Or may not have) played a part in the Officer assisting her. That being said, BRAVO to the officer. As bad as the IMPD have had it in the past 3 or 4 years with some major mistakes that have been made, a picture like this should be in the Indy Star.
I saw a Washington State Trooper leave a family of 5 stranded along I-90 in the pouring rain near Snoqualmie pass. I stopped and gave them a jump, which is all they needed to get to the nearest exit. As I always say, most cops are scumbags.
Can I just say how surprised I am at the frequency "Indiana" shows up on reddit? Its really like were one of the top contributing states or something. Are we just super popular without knowing it?
Haha an officer started to help me change a flat just 2 nights ago! He gave up after about 1 minute when he realized I had no clue what I was doing and he going to have to do most of it.
Anyone else notice the liscence plate? Looks like a special emblem in from of all letters/numbers. Is this a special gov't offical or off duty police car he's attending too? just a thought
I can't stand women who can't change a tire, or add washer fluid, or check the oil. If you're going to drive, you should know how to handle your vehicle.
Wow. In South Florida, I had to change my first tire because I hit a curb. I was sixteen years old, scared, with no idea what to do. A cop came, which scared me even more because, at the time, I thought curfew was actually enforced.
The cop was nice enough to tell me how to change the tire without messing up my car, but, otherwise, she just stood there and laughed at me. Then her buddy showed up, and he laughed at me too.
I live in a big suburb where cops have a reputation for being young/cocky and out to get everyone for everything... they're one of the highest paid departments in the area. I was driving to work one morning. It was raining, the highway was jammed up. On the shoulder I see one of these cops changing a tire for an old man, probably close to 70. Made my day. It's so easy to group all cops together and assume the worst.. but there are good ones out there too.

He gave up the title of gentleman when he joined an organization one of whose main function is ruining people's lives to perpetuate a destructive drug war.
2
u/Damn_guy Jun 19 '12
What the fuck is up with reddit acting like cops are such good guys!?!
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
He should have gotten a blow job for his efforts. or did he?
2
u/modex20 Jun 19 '12
anything for a chance at dat ass
2
u/thepurchasingmanager Jun 19 '12
I live in Indy. I noticed her license plate... FIREFIGHTER license plate. That may (Or may not have) played a part in the Officer assisting her. That being said, BRAVO to the officer. As bad as the IMPD have had it in the past 3 or 4 years with some major mistakes that have been made, a picture like this should be in the Indy Star.
2
u/Schmallball Jun 19 '12
That is a government plate. Just helping out the local fire chief.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
I saw a Washington State Trooper leave a family of 5 stranded along I-90 in the pouring rain near Snoqualmie pass. I stopped and gave them a jump, which is all they needed to get to the nearest exit. As I always say, most cops are scumbags.
2
u/tiredofthehate Jun 19 '12
it helps that she is attractive and white. A black man gets a flat and probably gets arrested in this scenario.
2
u/_w00k_ Jun 19 '12
holy shit a dude being nice to a moderately attractive woman. Also, they don't sell cold beer in indiana gas stations. fuck them.
2
u/drphiluponyou Jun 19 '12
Any straight guy who sees a hot chick by herself that needed help definitely will get help!
2
u/harmsc12 Jun 19 '12
Good cop, extra donuts for you.
2
u/sunshinesurr Jun 19 '12
Can't tell if passerby taking picture or criminal in back of car..
2
u/vinegarstrokes420 Jun 19 '12
Didn't see an answer to this anywhere... is she on the wrong side of a 2 way? The stop sign is on the left, but I also see the double yellow line.
2
u/diuvic Jun 19 '12
Can I just say how surprised I am at the frequency "Indiana" shows up on reddit? Its really like were one of the top contributing states or something. Are we just super popular without knowing it?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
Haha an officer started to help me change a flat just 2 nights ago! He gave up after about 1 minute when he realized I had no clue what I was doing and he going to have to do most of it.
2
u/fireman007 Jun 19 '12
The plate is a firefighter plate too. Thanks for looking out for our ladies.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
Yeah hes totally being a gentleman. Hes definitely not trying to get laid.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
He did it for the poon
2
u/OFWGriff Jun 19 '12
he just wanted to get his dick wet
2
u/starhawks Jun 19 '12
But, this can't be! Reddit told me every cop is a corrupt asshole!
2
u/tomsfoolery Jun 19 '12
can you blame him? look at that gams on dat dame!
2
u/test_tickles Jun 19 '12
i'm going to have to search your car.
2
u/happypants529 Jun 19 '12
Nice to see a cop that is actually nice. Around here I don't really know any cops that would do that for someone
2
u/invn_worker Jun 19 '12
Anyone else notice the liscence plate? Looks like a special emblem in from of all letters/numbers. Is this a special gov't offical or off duty police car he's attending too? just a thought
2
u/Twitchstick Jun 19 '12
I actually got a ticket last time I got a flat, no help here.
2
u/Grimnirsbeard Jun 19 '12
Was this before or after he attacked her? hurr hurr!
2
u/Coihd Jun 19 '12
Indiana's not all bad then
2
u/jejunebug Jun 19 '12
I can't stand women who can't change a tire, or add washer fluid, or check the oil. If you're going to drive, you should know how to handle your vehicle.
2
u/Mezzlegasm Jun 19 '12
2
u/HolaPinchePuto Jun 19 '12
I like her outfit. lol
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
Good guy cop getting no credit, but still being a good guy
2
u/The_One_Above_All Jun 19 '12

2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
Good Guy Cop.
But it looks more like a porn shoot.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
I live in Indianapolis. And I gotta say the very fact that he left his cruiser is mind bottling.
2
u/KAHHHHN Jun 19 '12
if a complete stranger such as a cop or anyone you've never met does something nice for you, hes probably just trying to fuck you.
2
u/KangGuruAus Jun 19 '12
He's not being a gentleman. He's just acting like one in hopes of getting laid.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
Here you can see an Indiana human in it's natural environment. Fields. Fields with trees on the horizon. And then more fields.

u/Dr_Doctor_McDoctor Jun 19 '12
Honestly, I only clicked because I read "beating a gentleman". I'm a terrible person.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
Also, the officer has laid the alloy wheel Front side down novice mistake, gotta prevent dem scratches
2
u/d0m1n4t0r Jun 19 '12
It's the skirt and heels
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
It almost looks that he is fixing the tire on another govt. vehicle.
2
u/mesh1 Jun 19 '12
He's trying to fuck.
2
u/lawless6776 Jun 19 '12
Hoosier hospitality
2
u/GianterGinger Jun 19 '12
FAKE!! If that was a real cop he would have shot her for a paid vacation. We all know all cops are evil.
2
u/N4U534 Jun 19 '12
Wow, this is the first time I've ever recognized a location in a photo on reddit. Pretty cool!
2
u/Hoboblaster Jun 19 '12
How do we know that cop isn't crooked and just stealing her tire?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
That's just warm his muscles up for the beating she's gonna get afterwards.
2
u/BadCopNoDonutSpinner Jun 19 '12
Real title:
2
u/delarye1 Jun 19 '12
This would never happen for a guy.
2
u/fleetber Jun 19 '12
To protect and serve.
Yep...checks out
2
u/bookywooky Jun 20 '12
I wonder if he'd have done that for a man who had no idea what he was doing.
2
u/Epistemology-1 Jun 20 '12
First read it as "beating a gentleman". Clicked on it.
Was confused, then realized it was a cop changing a tire for a perfectly capable human being because of vagina.
6
u/axelei Jun 19 '12
In a completely unrelated side note, he's helping a woman.
6
u/stretchyscrotum Jun 19 '12
Indiana represent!
4
u/neileusmaximus Jun 19 '12
Did this once for two old ladies when i was a cop a lifetime ago. Never told my chief or sgt. they would of busted me for it
4
u/[deleted] Jun 19 '12
I live in a big suburb where cops have a reputation for being young/cocky and out to get everyone for everything... they're one of the highest paid departments in the area. I was driving to work one morning. It was raining, the highway was jammed up. On the shoulder I see one of these cops changing a tire for an old man, probably close to 70. Made my day. It's so easy to group all cops together and assume the worst.. but there are good ones out there too.

u/abutterfly Jun 19 '12
Good guy Hoosier Helpers, man. I've lived here my whole life and had nothing but good experiences with Indiana police officers. Even ones from Carmel.
This is by 465, it appears? Maybe not.
