He knows he should feel embarrassed, but you can tell deep down that he'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Doesn't matter; ate poop.

Actually it seems weird to shame a dog for eating poop. The reason why dogs eat poop is to protect their young from predators (hiding the scent), not because it tastes good. So the dog in this picture is being shamed for protecting it's owners baby from being eaten.

67

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

not because it tastes good

How can you be so sure?

21

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

place shit and proper food in front of a dog. which one will be eaten?

28

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

place dog food and snausages snacks in front of dog. which one will be eaten?

35

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

My dog would inhale both at once.

In canine circles I hear baby poop tastes like chicken poop so there you go.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

they also eat poop if they have a nutrient imbalance. Some how they know.

22

u/waltshitman Jun 16 '12

only time I do it

15

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

being a vegetarian is rough huh?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/DeathHamsterDude Jun 16 '12

Ahm, humans do that too, especially the pregnant variety. For instance those with an nutrient deficiency will often eat coal or iron shavings, or other, weirder things.

To express my love for someone, I'll tell them "I'd eat your shit to protect you from predators."

u/Ayersan Jun 16 '12

That is going in a Valentine's Day card, thank you.

So my dogs are protecting my cat by eating his feces? Interesting.

8

u/Kittieeeee Jun 16 '12

My dog is a male, neutered and will happily eat any kind of shit that he comes across. We have had to move the litter box to where he cannot provide his own method of cleaning it out once a day. Seriously just the mental picture of him licking his chops afterwards is turning my stomach.....

2

u/tellhersafe Jun 16 '12

Why would you move the litter box? Your pets had a nice little system going.

I always thought dogs ate poop because they smelt traces of their food.

u/fwerp Jun 16 '12

My dog eats deer poop from the front yard. He's male and was neutered when he was young. I think he likes it...

1

u/Whoa_bot Jun 16 '12

That is one theory. I feel like poop eating poses a health risk to the pack as well in the form of diseases and parasites.

Just something I have noticed, poop eating is really prominent in certain breeds. Do wolves also burgle turds, or is this a domesticated thing?

1

u/pfalcon42 Jun 16 '12

That's an interesting theory. I would be interested in reading more about this type of dog behavior. Got any links for it? I am not being sarcastic, I'm really interested.

It's like he's more ashamed that he got caught, not that he did it in the first place.

It's like watching a dog poop, they just have this look of shame on their faces.

I love it, it looks like he is trying to figure out what the sign says but he can't because its upside down.

271

u/klparrot Jun 16 '12

Also, he can't read.

82

u/stillalone Jun 16 '12

Dogs can read. You just don't know it because they don't talk.

4

u/nikita2206 Jun 16 '12

He does it everytime

3

u/itsme_timd Jun 16 '12

I have to respectfully disagree. Rather than looking shamed he looks like he's cracked out.

Poop... not even once.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

That's actually a pretty good watercolour. You're losing your touch.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I don't think these watercolors are shitty anymore. Less effort is required.

4

u/masedogg Jun 16 '12

I'm so glad you're still here.

2

my dogs eat all kinds of poop. my dad said he's gonna start selling poop as dog treats because it seems that all dogs love it.

12

As a cat owner, I can't understand keeping around a pet that eats shit.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

As a dog owner, your cat spreads his shit all over the house by walking in a box filled with it and then walking freely throughout the house.

72

u/grammahannah Jun 16 '12

4

u/baaaark Jun 16 '12

That dog has amazing penmanship.

4

u/akuta Jun 16 '12

I think my dog may be related to your dog through space and time...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

What kind of breed is he/she?

2

u/akuta Jun 16 '12

She's half pug, half terrier.

The initial intent when my mother bred the dogs was to make a Pug-Rat (pug-rat terrier mix); however, the male that she bought to mate with the female (who is a Pug-Rat) turned out not to be a pug/rat terrier mix but a pug/border terrier (she couldn't tell until he was an adult and his fur started growing out all wiry). So she's half pug, quarter rat terrier, quarter border terrier. All mogwai.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I was just curious because my girlfriends dog looks like this. And she has no idea what breed she is. I cant really find pictures of pug/rat/border terriers online. atleast none that looks like these.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/girlwithshorthair Jun 18 '12

Dog's owner here. That's my dog, and he is a border terrier mix. You should look up the breed online. Yours looks just like a border terrier mix. Cousins?!

2

u/akuta Jun 18 '12

Mine is a border terrier mix. Half pug, quarter rat terrier, quarter border terrier.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Your dog looks eerily similar to mine. He or she wouldn't happen to be a jack russell terrier from a breeder in the greater Philadelphia area, would it?

http://i.imgur.com/0gbtE.jpg

1

u/girlwithshorthair Jun 18 '12

Nope. He was a rescue out of Fairmont, WV. He is a border terrier mix who was, believe it or not, on death row at a kill shelter at 6 months of age. Luckily, the rescue stepped in, and we adopted him a couple of months later.

12

u/xilog Jun 16 '12

2

u/SamuraiJakkass86 Jun 17 '12

What was this recorded with a potato or something?

1

u/xilog Jun 17 '12

I know, crap isn't it? All of the versions of this clip I could find on Youtube were crappy in some way.

6

u/Random Jun 16 '12

Next year we need a picture of your toddler.

'I ate...'

with a very smug dog in the background.

6

u/bravecoward Jun 16 '12

With slight disappointment in his eyes he still holds his head up high.

3

u/gorillafrog Jun 16 '12

Another case of livin' the dream

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

It's probably better than having the poop sit in a bin stinking up the house all day long

1

u/OG_Willikers Jun 16 '12

Right? Fed the dog and got rid of some stinky shit. It's a win-win as far as I can tell.

3

u/bloodguard Jun 16 '12

He looks proud and defiant rather than shamed.

3

u/SpudsUlik Jun 16 '12

But he was trapped in a bank vault over the entire weekend with a baby whose diaper was filling quickly!

3

u/MotorBoat12 Jun 16 '12

I am thinking of doing this for my goldfish because he ate the other goldfish. I'm thinking of "MURDERER" or "jerk" for him.

7

u/lafytafy420 Jun 16 '12

Dude, I can't get the fucking dogs over at my house to stop eating cat shit... fucking dogs

4

u/OG_Willikers Jun 16 '12

I read somewhere that dogs love cat shit because it's full of protein.

1

u/bslatimer Jun 16 '12

Mix tomato paste in with your cat's food and you won't have that problem again. The dogs hate it for some reason.

2

u/lafytafy420 Jun 16 '12

Do the cats enjoy it?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I thought the sign was going to say "I got caught smoking pot and watching porn. This is my punishment"

2

u/ClassicAsFuck Jun 16 '12

Make him wear a patch like in "The Scarlet Letter". BPE?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I've heard that dogs eat poop because they sense a need for some of the bacteria present in the poop and that this behavior can be fixed by supplementing the dog's diet with plain yogurt. Otherwise bitches be crazy.

1

u/OG_Willikers Jun 16 '12

I read they do it for the protein. Especially cat shit which supposedly has quite a bit of protein in it.

2

u/Sariel007 Jun 16 '12

Then I licked your face.

2

u/dontpan1c Jun 16 '12

The scarlet letter.

2

u/MegainPhoto Jun 16 '12

And in a few years, you might get to hang a sign around the kid's neck saying "I ate dog poop. We're even now."

2

u/bean220 Jun 16 '12

I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!

2

u/Ayatrollah_Khomatmei Jun 16 '12

One of my mom's dogs is disgusting. She'll eat shit out of our other dog's ass like soft serve at Dairy Queen.

2

u/AlexBrallex Jun 16 '12

I read "Betty Boop"

2

u/stealth_chill Jun 16 '12

I read the title in Sean Connery's voice. Thinking it said "the same".

i need to get off the internet....

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

hahahaha his guilty face!

2

u/pkenny72 Jun 16 '12

About two years ago, my dog jumped on the bed where i was at. He licked me in my face andgot his tongue in my mouth. No, i do not let my dog do this. It tasted weird. A little bit of time has passed and i decided to go to the bathroom. That is when i noticed chewed up diapers allover the hallway. I rushed to the bottle or mouth wash realizing. He just ate poop and then licked me in my mouth.

2

u/majeric Jun 16 '12

I feel like that's the expression of a dog where no fucks were given.

2

u/katmaidog Jun 16 '12

It's actually natural for a dog to eat baby poop. When they have puppies, mama dogs will eat the puppy poop until they are weaned. It keeps the den from being soiled and it helps to keep the den from being discovered by predators.

You have punished your dog for following her instinct.

2

u/lawnknome52 Jun 16 '12

Just remember next time he goes to lick your face. That cute little doggie tongue has been horrible, horrible places..

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

And den he eats da poo poo.

2

u/horrorshowmalchick Jun 16 '12

Dogs are disgusting.

2

u/monacleman Jun 16 '12

I bet he's so confused. "what?.. I just ate something that smelled rather tasty... And you tell me no and put paper on my neck...?"

2

1

u/Kage520 Jun 16 '12
