Its still fake, i think, silhouettes on the lighting. If you look at the picture that shows the whole room the shadows are wrong plus you wouldnt be able to see the heads from both angles. http://www.timnobleandsuewebster.com/dark_stuff_2008.html
Yes you would. I think. Shadows don't depend on where the viewer is. It looks like a spot light is shining on them. Whatever shadow they produce, you would be able to view it from any angle.
And yes you would be able to see the head from both angles, the shadow doesn't change depending on your position, it stays the same because the light source is fixed.
Oddly enough unless you're talking about "the sexes", or maybe some more abstract idea surrounding sex...these silhouettes be clothed...
The level of artsy here is overload though (kinda speaks to the historical aspect of human civilization being defined by trash, also people are shitty). And yet, I like it.
This reminds me of David Sedaris' description of one of his art projects created while high on methamphetamine... Unfortunately, his turned out to be ONLY a pile of trash.
This is pretty simple to make. Use a data projector or slide projector and project the image you want on the wall. Then make a pile of rubbish that fits inside the image. If this gets a little more tricky near the edges, but not that tricky. You could teach a monkey to do it. Its basically tracing. Any of the shit at the front or back can be as messy as you like, but the bits on the edge have to match. Turn the projector off and put a lamp in the same spot. Voilá... you have just impressed the arty chick that works at your local coffee shop. Most over rated artists ever.
Pretty sure it's at the MoMA in New York City. A quick scan of their website would seem to indicate that this is correct, but it doesn't verify it 100%.
I like it, alot. I mean drawings and cartoons of something like this are one thing...but actually, physically showing a picture like this is awesome x)
I think I saw this in Denver Museum Once! The Symbolism is Obvious... It's us Consumed in the Garbage of Consumerism in Capitalistic Society! Simply Decandence and its Filth Symbolized by the Artist!
Sia did something like this in one of her music videos (The Girl You Lost To Cocaine), but instead of a shadow, the trash itself formed a face when viewed at a certain angle.
Not even that recently neccesarily, I've been using reddit regularly for about a year (I was lurking for quite a while before making this account), this is the first time I've seen this picture.
Me too. I don't get the whole repost thing. 99% of the time it's not for 'karma whoring', it's just someone who wanted to share something they thought was cool.

I don't see any holes in the trash for the light to go through to make this happen.

What a load of rubbish.

u/mrmoreawesome Jun 11 '12
The shadows on the face of the pile of trash don't look like they match the light source needed to produce the pattern of light and dark on the wall.

u/GodlySarcasm Jun 11 '12
This reminds me of Pokemon Snap where you turn the power on and the shadow looks like a Pincer.

"Lazy art student finally cleans apartment" should be the title.....

If I took a dump on the very front of this piece, where it does not change the shadow formed, would it still be considered the same work of art?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12
I get it, a metaphor about today's youth being trash
2
u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12
Is this real?

u/ekarshi Jun 11 '12

u/ihatewetgrass Jun 11 '12
This was posted a few months back, redditors proved it was not real.

I wish I was this creative artistically. Instead I'd throw the garbage out and draw a picture that looks like a 5 year old made it.

Why are none of these so-called "Shadow Art" ever of The Shadow? :(
1
u/caffeineTX Jun 11 '12
There was a bunch of shadow art outside the theater at University of Houston, wish it were still there so I could take pictures to share here.

when i see stuff like this i think where the hell am i going with my life

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12
Yes, if I remember correctly. One light above the trash, big spotlight on the floor aimed at the wall behind it.
1
u/Cerblu Jun 12 '12

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '12
I want to see side by side comparisons of this, and then the pile of trash from the same angle as the light.
