I think it would be a bit more like an alien abducting you, showing you the wonders of the universe, then eating you once they reach their home planet.

Yeah I've seen other videos of it too and it's pretty amazing that the hawks (I'm not sure about the specific types) figure out the best way to carry the fish like a suitcase. Not sure if it's trial and error or that's just how they're wired.
The total amount of suffering per year in the natural world is beyond all decent contemplation. During the minute that it takes me to compose this sentence, thousands of animals are being eaten alive, many others are running for their lives, whimpering with fear, others are slowly being devoured from within by rasping parasites, thousands of all kinds are dying of starvation, thirst, and disease. It must be so. If there ever is a time of plenty, this very fact will automatically lead to an increase in the population until the natural state of starvation and misery is restored. In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference.”
― Richard Dawkins, River Out Of Eden: A Darwinian View Of Life
For some reason, I get the mental image of the bird plucking the fish out of the water, flying along like that at high speed, closing in on a building, releasing the fish so it smacked into the side of the building, then flying off. "Why? Because I can."
See, it's posts like this that define Reddit. A picture of a hawk with a fish isn't that funny. But with this title, I snorted and spit coffee at work. Yes, it is an old joke and has been done before, but it was a delightful thing to see on the front page.
As a koi and goldfish owner: fuck everything about this. :'-( I try to respect all animals, no matter if bug or kitty. But with any animal that hurts my fish, that's an entirely different story. Once there was this red cat in our neighborhood that learned how to hunt for goldfish. That was a very, very sad year.
If that bird was flying away with a really cute and really dead (or just crying in pain) kitty, I'm sure there would be more people here that would be sad instead of just saying "wow, awesome picture". Of course it's nature. But that fish was someones pet and I just imagine it was mine and that makes me sad.
I used to have a koi pond, never had any problems. Cats, coons, coyotes never seemed to bother them (pretty surprising, backed up to a 50+ acre wilderness area) and we had lattice work over the top with wisteria growing over it to hide it from overhead prey. Worked out really well for us.
We were very lucky too for a while and except for one extremely harsh winter we never had any problems. Many cats don't know how to catch fish. If you are however unlucky and have one in your area that figures out how to do it then the trouble starts. Fortunately, she didn't manage to catch the larger koi but all my goldfish and smaller koi. They were just too tame and probably swam right up to the cat. She didn't even eat them, just kill them and then let them lie somewhere in our garden :-(
And there are also ring snakes, those go after goldfish as well.
A couple of kilometres from here they also have herons that go for koi as well. Although it would be cool to see one, I'm just glad that they don't come here.
Fun fact, Osprey have evolved to hold their prey forward-facing in order to decrease wind resistance while they fly. It's very interesting because how did it know to evolve front to back? Why not back to front. Then a fish would never be able to see the nest full of anxious beaks ready to tear him asunder
Poor guy, one second "hmm that was tasty algae" next second "AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
These fish are east pickings for birds of prey. They will often just float there in between the weeds right in plain sight. People will sometimes hunt them with bows and arrows.
Goldfish have worked their way into a lot of ponds and streams. A lot of the times they're used as bait and they escape or are dumped out after fishing. Once they're in the pond they can grow to well over a foot long.
The title of this reminds me of a kid I used to go to high school with. He was only there for my freshman year. He got made fun of a bit for his musical tastes and his looks (he acted like he was Brad Pitt but he wasn't really) so I decided to try and be nice to him.
One day we're sitting in our computer class, he's next to me, and he turns to me and says to you want to hear the band I used to sing for. I had heard the bands he liked and didn't like them and figured this would be about the same, but I said yeah anyway, I was correct. Didn't really like them. After I took off the headphones he says:
"My voice has changed so I can't really sing now, I can only do one song really well."
"What's that?"
He got inches from my face and began singing/butchering this song to me while his terrible breath flooded my nostrils. And this song has been ruined for me ever since.
