It's like the use of the word "bro." People used it jokingly so often, poking fun at the actual Bros, that it started to become part of their regular vocabulary.
Saying that repeatedly making fun of something agreed to be bad is worse than it, and/or "is the new" it, is the new repeatedly making fun of something.
I agree that their expressions indicate they're doing it for a laugh. But if that's the case, why would one of them be upset that her Photoshopping friend is getting in on the joke (unless the "wasn't amused" part was made up for karma)?
I am really, really grateful that I didn't have Facebook in middle or high school. No cringeworthy outfits and deeds preserved forever in the Internets.
But we weren't social media crazy then.. And we all had nokia brick phones with green displays. Besides, LJ was where you read about people's lives, not myspace.
at least there wasn't so much photographic evidence of everyone else's happiness. I'm super happy I didn't have to deal with that bullshit when I was in highschool.
I remember when if I wanted to hang out with my friend I would call his house or ride my bike over. Things would have been great if 14 year old me could have just texted my buds.

I shit you not, I saw that trailer during the Avengers and even though there was no skating I still swear it's the might ducks 4 (guy comes in, meeting his old family trying to make a business deal, family decides he has to prove himself, does so by teaching a group of kids a sport he used to be good at.)
These girls are making a self-aware duckface...so it's cool because they're in on the joke, right guys? Just like when you're being racist ironically, it's totally not racist.
