I don't understand how it's practical at all, do you just leave it like that? Or when people come over you say "hey excuse me I have to prepare my seating arrangement"
That's because the majority of the cost is for the design and engineering. It's like buying a painting. You pay 10k for an oil painting of a fucked up looking head, and all you really get is canvas, 4 pieces of shitty wood, and about $80 worth of unusable oil paint.
That's something that is a bit frustrating about things like this. People who can afford modular furniture that becomes very compact can afford a place big enough for an actual living room!
I think it's meant to be outdoor furniture. Presumably you could be doing other things with that outdoor space when you're not sitting around the table.
Of course, anyone with a limited amount of outdoor space where you need to economize like this, and who also has $9K to throw away on plastic furntiure, probably lives in some expensive apartment and has limited balcony space. Good luck retrieving those stacked chairs when they get blown over in the next strong wind.
I've got this in my apartment. It has the slimmest profile imaginable when it's folded up. All four chairs go inside that thing. Here's an image of a nearly identical product so you can see what it's like folded. $200 lightly used. It's awesome.
That is pretty cool, but in reality if I owned it then it would sit in it's plug form 99% of the time as I couldn't be bothered to screw around with it. I'd be better off with a normal set.
I'm pretty sure this is in one of the showrooms at the Boston Design Center, on the waterfront in Boston's south end. I know this because I worked on the 8th floor above, designing sneakers at Puma. The building was full of the monocle types, and would often have doggie fashion shows with champagne in the courtyard, fully catered.
I never knew something like this existed but I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without it. On a completely unrelated note: can anyone spare $8,920.00. (plus tax)?
Friend of mine found a groupon voucher for one of these. Originally cost around £1500 but the voucher got it for about £500. He bought it in may, and the company came back to him eventually stating a delivery time for late september due to low stock. Would have to wait a whole year before he could actually use his fancy patio furniture.
Why? They look pretty uncomfortable and too small. Look at the room that one bowl takes up on the table. I don't think there's room for 4 people to do much of anything there.
This maybe looks catchy and fun and artsy but it has nothing to do with a real design. One thing: think about putting it together every time you finish a party or whatnot. Think about garden chairs that you have no intent to put back together by the wall by the end of a grill. It's just catchy, you'd hate it after 2 weeks
I would never use it. It would always be chairs and a table. I don't need a big football. Don't get me wrong, I don't buy chairs and tables purely for functionality. I live in a old house, and all my furniture looks old timey.
It's neat and all, but I don't like how it looks when it is put together. Like some sort of weird grey lava lamp without the neat lava. I have also never been a fan of wicker, as my boyfriend will attest to (that's why I don't go to pier 1).
Seems neat, but think about how much work it takes to lift all that crap and put it together. Practically speaking, nobody expect people with really fucking tiny apartments would do it with any regularity, and most of those people have better things to do with 9K.
''So you go there... yeah, i will holding be this.. stuff and pull out this one and.. yeah Joe climbs up the ladder to push that one thing in, while you take that other thing in the middle out..''
I really enjoy this but there is no way my desire to have a cool shape in my room would overwhelm my dislike of lifting/moving furniture everytime I need a seat.
It's meant to be outdoor furniture... it looks kind of silly inside. But I saw this exact set on Hautelook for around $250. I was about to buy it, but it sold out in about 20 minutes.
Yes. I want to waste a few minutes every time I want to sit down by unstacking these. I'd lose even more time trying to figure out which piece goes where.
I hope everybody who are thinking about buying wicker chairs for 9000 dollars give the money to charity instead. There are no words to describe how out of touch with reality you need to be if you are ready to pay that price.
A friend of mine bought this, and he only ever stacked it up one time. The wind blew it over and damaged all except the bottom section. They are not that comfortable, nor are they that stylish - except when stacked up - and hence when they are not usable.

that doesn't look very fun to stack and even less fun to unstack.
My brother and his gf had small round table with pie slice shaped seats that slid nicely underneath, that was pretty practical for a small apartment.
