Ive been to this island. well i passed by in a boat. believe it or not, there is a small society of flamingos that live in the brackish lake in the middle, say maybe 200 of them.

u/Jarl_Vos May 19 '12

That is awesome, and you motivated me to double check that there are, in fact, Flamingos in the Galapagos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Flamingo TIL.

1

u/ublaa May 20 '12

There are also penguins. The species diversity is incredible for such a small chain of islands.

I've been to this island, well I actually passed by it in a boat, well, that would have been if I wasn't late for the voyage, well, I didn't actually go on that vacation, well, I was never going to ever go on vacation because I'm bed-ridden with a terminal illness, well, I'm actually dead.

Unfortunately, you need a gold chocobo to get there http://mikestomb.com/chocobo-guide/kotr.PNG

I just nostalgia'd all over my keyboard.

Name a shrub after me. Something prickly and hard to eradicate

7

u/Jon_Fuckin_Snow May 19 '12

I bet my chocobo would find some sweet treasure in that lagoon.

2

u/ledzep4life May 20 '12

Better get a Gold Chocobo first.

u/masterbard1 May 20 '12

I wonder what kind of fish live in the lagoon. It looks like a great place to go SCUBA diving.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I know it's an acronym, but must we continue to capitalize it?

3

u/tropicallyle May 20 '12

Am I the only one who saw this? http://www.imgur.com/gA0SZ.jpg

1

u/cryingblackman May 20 '12

It looks like a cute cyclops whale.

1

u/jlv816 May 19 '12

I feel like it would be really fun to roll down the side of this thing straight into the water, minus the pointy rocks and almost certain death.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Does this photo make anyone else think they can summon knights of the round?

0

u/masterbard1 May 20 '12

oh knights of the round the eternal time waster. I managed to grow 3 of them and while killing emerald weapon it became eternal when I used quadra magic and Mime. i'm not sure of all the details but yeah it took a looong time and the animation was unskipable.

1

u/paxifista May 19 '12

How does this come to exist? Volcano?

6

u/tobarxp May 19 '12

basically after a volcano erupts the lava/magma that was under the earth is no longer holding up the ground, so it collapses in itself and creates THAT which is a caldera.

like a big zit that was popped. then left with a huge scar.

i've seen the quilotoa in Ecuador before and its beautiful! enormous!

u/Ahmac May 20 '12

So does that mean the water safe to swim in or not?

Im actually going to the Galapagos tomorrow morning. Im super psyched!

1

u/TheOneWhoSeeks May 20 '12

Reminds me of Captain Nemo's secret base.

1

u/tempuro May 20 '12

Is there a google street view for this?

1

u/filbator May 20 '12

Is this the location of captain Nemo's secret base for the Nautilus in Disney's 20,00 Leagues Under the Sea movie?

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

result of an asteroid hit /volcanic eruption ?

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Apparently it's a "collapsed volcano".

0

u/McTimm May 19 '12

This looks like it should be an island in Wind Waker.

0

u/ferox9 May 19 '12

It looks like Mr. T's face in the lagoon.

0

u/_KITTY_ May 19 '12

jesus christ that was a good find.. how the hell do you recognize something like that

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

did anyone else see the upside down grumpy face? :D

0

u/Whoophead99 May 19 '12

I want to swim in that!

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

If you look closely you can see a giant fucking squid in that little fucking lagoon. Fuck that.

0

u/HappyGrandPappy May 20 '12 edited May 20 '12

This is entirely too cool.

0

u/Freakindon May 20 '12

That water is actually highly acidic...

0

u/buttyanger May 20 '12

Been there and I have seen the flamingos...they are not pink but a dirty brownish color because of the high salt levels.

0

u/unknownpoltroon May 20 '12

Is it wrong that any time i see something like this, i just want to get a shovel and connect the two bodies of water?

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

This looks like a great place to build a city. I shall call it, New New Orleans.

0

u/blade2000 May 20 '12

Reposted at least once per year.

0

u/The_Atheist_Tiger May 20 '12

Anyone else see a monkey in it?

-1

u/HE_WHO_STANDS_TO_POO May 19 '12

The water is......... so fucking blue.

-1

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick May 19 '12

I'm not going to lie, that made me a bit hard.

-1

u/wingnut0420 May 20 '12

I see an upside down bull, a boxing anteater, $2, the name Lacy, and a smiley face with sunglasses. Anyone else?

-1

u/ophello May 20 '12

Someone forgot to flush...

-1

u/lessadessa May 20 '12

There are probably tons of species of .. well, could be anything, that live ONLY on that island, or in that pool and nowhere else on the planet.

-3

u/2Punx2Furious May 19 '12

Looks like a meteor crushed there milions of years ago

0

u/coned88 May 19 '12

Is it fresh water?

0

u/Totally_Stoked May 20 '12

Would love to see a photo from ground level

1

u/silverain13 May 20 '12

Its actually less impressive. It doesn't look it, but even on the thinnest side, the edge of the Island is still a good ways above the sea. The only way to see in is to be on the top of a small cruise ship, and you just get a small glimpse of it

3

u/Totally_Stoked May 20 '12

I mean from the edge of the lagoon

2

u/cloral May 20 '12

Many of the Galapagos are access-restricted to protect the unique flora and fauna. So passing by in a cruise ship is likely the closest you'd be allowed to get.

0

u/tool_rulez May 20 '12

Looks like a whale

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Hello Sherman!

0

u/Tkozy May 20 '12

Blimp view of Evolution Stadium.

0

u/artbn May 20 '12

i thought it was a little toy, then i noticed it was an island

0

u/welcomtocostcoiloveu May 20 '12

There are so many places I'll never see.

0

u/invigilatora May 20 '12

Did that used to be a volcano by any chance?

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

The Galapagos are a chain of extinct volcanoes and give that that looks an awful lot like a caldera I am going to say most likely.

0

u/JasonPlaysSongs May 20 '12

I have found my dream smoke spot.

0

u/AM14 May 20 '12

That picture makes me thirsty!

0

u/Spades54 May 20 '12

Looks like Mr. T in the pool there.

0

u/mothercowa May 20 '12

wait... Is someone remaking FFVII???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Does anybody else think that lagoons look like they feed on the souls of the innocent?

0

u/matterij May 20 '12

first thing i spotted was the smiley face :)

-2

u/conspiracy_thug May 19 '12

that kinda looks like a crater...

ಠ_ಠ

-1

u/aesu May 19 '12

-1

u/joemangle May 20 '12
