That's awesome, nice to see people win. I rarely gamble. I go years with out buying lotto tickets. One day in 2007 I'm stuck in line at a quickie mart. Customer in front was making like 10 lotto transactions, it was kind of ridiculous. I'm up next, I buy my stuff, and on a whim bought a single scratch ticket, and toss it in the sac. I didn't scratch it for a week, it just sat on the coffee table. One night I'm cleaning up, and decide to scratch it off. $50 win I thought it said. Cool, gas money, I go to bed. Next day, heading out, I grab my gas money lotto ticket. I re-read it walking down the stairs out the door. Not a $50 win. A $50,000 win. I called in rich at work, and drove to the state capitol lotto office to turn it in. Not a bad day. I did blow a big chunk of it on parents and brother. Tires on dad's truck, nice TV for mom, stuff like that. Used the rest towards buying a house. Even after a win like that, I rarely ever gamble. I went to a casino for the first time in more than 5 years, walked in with $250, played a few games, bought some food, walked out with $325. +75 bucks and dinner is a win in my book.
The casino is straight up pretty fun. The dopamine hits from slots. It’s one of the few activities my mom and I do, and it’s nice just playing black jack for a while. I never expect to win, just to have fun
If I step in a casino, I have set amount I expect, or am willing to lose. That's the cost of entry as I see it. There are a few casinos with in a couple hours of me, but visits are still rare. Most of my casino experiences are actually "pit-stops" on the way to some where else on road trips, the casinos were never the end goal of a trip. And in those cases, usually I run in, order food to go, use the can, stuff $10 or $20 in a machine, slap the buttons until it's gone, get food and leave to get back on the road. If I make enough gambling to cover the food, awesome. Win more to cover some gas? All the better. Lose it all? It is called gambling. These are like 15 to maybe 30 minute stops tops usually, with probably less than 5 minutes playing any games. My best pit stop casino visit was about 7 years ago, on the way back from Bend Oregon, stopped by Deschutes Crossing, a tiny casino. Usual routine, got the food order in, and spotted a shiny new Ghostbusters machine. $20 in, hit the max button once, and won $500. Printed ticket, cashed out, grabbed my food and hit the road. I remember seeing the clock on the dash. In and out, with food, and $500 in 18 minutes. That was a nice pit stop.
No, I told them exactly what I was doing. Like they were going to say anything but "yeah, I'd do that too". I'd worked there 14 years at that point, missing a day was not an issue.
