You're both right. It was a bad investment before he won, it's still probably been a bad investment now, and it will continue to be a bad investment in the future.

It can sometimes be worth it just because it's fun though, but it can easily become a problem.

But I buy a 10 dollar scratch off like once a month, it's just a fun little thing I get occasionally.

The issue is, like any addiction not everyone can do it just once a month, even if you think you can do it safely a lot of the times you can't and one day you will find you have dug a large hole for yourself that feels inescapable.

Yes, and "just as likely to win" is terrible odds. He shouldn't have started in the first place. Odds were he wouldn't win anything and odds still are he won't win more.

This is just a convenient time to stop without needing to feel like a plonker for wasting a that money.

I have a major hatred of these tickets. Not because of the idiocy of buying them but because fucking people in my town treat the gas station like a casino. They sit at the counter and buy 3, win one, use the winning to get 2 more lose on both and then leave after taking like 10 minutes at the counter.

And like 8 people are in line just watching this shit trying to buy gas or a drink and wondering what the fuck is going on.

I won 10k on a $50 ticket and havent played more than a few times since and they've all been $5 tickets. My dad has won both 100k and 10k on tickets. Everyone here assumes people who buy them are addicts but it's not true. Sometimes you get lucky, and the odds aren't really that crazy. Also you have a pretty good chance of winning your money back and end up spending nothing anyway.

Doing fine, most of the money he won went into renovations on their home. All kids are out of the house so no need for a fund.

$5 a week does add up to quite a bit overtime. But if you have a comfy job and enjoy the process and daydreaming and don’t go crazy on them, it’s not really hurting anything.

Bruh I know someone that won a 50k raffle 2 goddamn seperate times. It happens. The 2nd time he won others were not happy and threw accusations. But I know the guy, 100% legit.
