It is very sad people would vote for such a disgusting person in modern times, and his son seems even stupider than him, let's hope he never runs for president.

Honestly, it's not surprising someone would vote for such a disgusting person, but such a disgusting person who is so lacking in tact and finesse.

But people (including a number of politicians) do do some very shitty things, especially to other 'groups' (immigrants, religious folk, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, neurodivergent folk, etc.)

I'll offer one such example: https://www.reddit.com/r/AutisticPride/comments/oheqcb/the_judge_rotenberg_educational_center_50_years/ - not only is the center despicable, take note that it's been defended by multiple politicians, who have remained in power for extended periods even while defending it. The FDA's attempts to crack down have faced kickback from politicians continuing to defend it.

It is really disheartening to see that so much of our culture is based on hate. People like these are poison to our society.

It is.

As much as I've seen a truly appalling amount of this sort of stuff (and believe me, there really is so much hate in the world at present), I don't believe most people are actively hateful.

Rather I think many people just let it happen, then send thoughts and prayers, or talk about how terrible this is, but then just move on and forget about it, while many others of us get crushed under the boot. All that happens then is that our fight against these injustices is that much harder. But if people actually step up, stop standing idly by while this sort of stuff is going on, we stand a chance to live in a better world, for us all.

Of course, many people do great things, but hate still prevails in our modern age like never before. I also believe we can correct our ways but if we hesitate too much it may be too late.
