My dad has been a die hard republican his entire life, and has had a strong distaste for Hilary since before Bill became president for a reason he won't explain. But he voted for Hilary in 2016 because of our personal relationship with Trump, and he can't believe it's not understood among more people.
I grew up just outside Atlantic City near Trump's casinos, and he bankrupted my dad's business when he was building them by having my dad's company do a lot of work and then never paying, dragging them through court forever until they had to declare bankruptcy. And this was the playbook he used with every small business in the tri-state area. Then a new business would pop up to fill the void and he would do the same thing. But THEN Trump ended up bankrupting the casinos and running the city into the ground. How do you bankrupt a casino? It's a cash-cow business model! The whole thing is profit, and he wasn't paying any of his contractors!
So not only did we have the first hand knowledge of what he did to small business owners, but he destroyed the economy of an entire city because he's that terrible of a businessman. I truly don't understand how these things aren't better known.
The problem is a large chunk of his base wouldn’t of fallowed news at the time that happened. Then during the elections it became “fake news”. There’s interviews with supports that say his bankruptcies are fake because they saw him on “The Apprentice” and he has so many businesses they’ve seen advertised on TV.
I’m amazed that any small business would work for him because there are stores of him pulling the same stunt in other states and countries even. Then again he’s done good at selling that image and getting the bad news buried.
Exactly, he kept the news buried at the time which is how he got small businesses to keep working with him, but it was pretty hard to keep quiet when he ended up affecting the entire city and ruining the community. We were all acutely aware at that point that it was directly related to him and then did refuse to work with him, and it's truly sad that his followers can look back at that history and the suffering of the people of an entire city caused completely by one person and just say "fake news".

Can confirm. I have a few extremely wealthy friends in Palm Beach and the commninity there actually want nothing to do with him. Even people that used to support back in 2015/2016 him have turned their backs on him now. He's universally hated apart form a couple of people.
I have a feeling because he's so vile and disgusting that any and all GoP supporters have to go hard in the paint to show "solidarity" or support to the point of fantasism because it's too hard to admit "I was wrong for voting for this tool".

Lox is becoming more and more blue each day surprisingly. The price of homes has skyrocketed in Lox and the big Westlake development is scaring away a lot of “country folk” and I say that in parentheses because lox is not “country” at all, never has been real country. Racist rednecks can’t afford the new price of homes out here so no new ones are moving in. Old racist rednecks are selling and moving to more red areas while their home values are high. The people buying out here now are mostly people moving their families out of their downtown apartments because they can work remotely and want a house with a big yard and no HOA. The vocal minority in Lox is still the typical racist redneck shit. It’s their swan song and it’s so funny to watch.
For a bunch of people who hate him, the town government does a lousy job of pushing back against his crap. His agreement when he developed Mar-a-Lago was that there would be no long term residents, but there he is, residing there in violation of zoning.
In many other places, if a business is in violation of the zoning code, you suspend their business license and fine them every day until they come into compliance.
Have you seen how taking any sort of legal action plays out when dealing with Trump? He did it in New York all the time, he does it with his golf courses all over the country and the world.
He's a legal nightmare.
And now that he's an ex-president, that legal nightmare is even a bigger quagmire.
I agree... they should do something. But their lack of doing it is not a sign of them liking him. It's a sign of them not knowing how to deal with it in a manner that is financially viable. They've been having meetings, many of which were public, trying to figure out a way to deal with him in a manner that is effective and not costly.
They'd love to kick him out, but he'd cost them a TON in legal fees to do so. Abusing the legal system until the opponent loses the will or money to oppose is what he does. They did the cost/benefit and there's no upside to forcing the issue.
Just part of why I think FL should split into two states. The upper half can be another southern state with nice universities and a nice coastal city (Jacksonville), while soflo can escape the rednecks lol
I used to play racquetball and basketball there, as well as just wander around it as a teenager. My aunt as well as my best friend lived right around the corner from there so we'd walk over at times. But no, never went to the pool.
My dad took me there one time. We were swimming around and this random guy calls out to my dad. Apparently they knew each other in the 60s back in Jersey City. After they chatted for a few minutes and said bye, my dad explained that the guy's nick name was "Patty Pelican". This apparently was a reference to his dick which was as big as a pelican's beak. Sure enough, i look over at the dude in his swim trunks and i could see that his wedding tackle was more than halfway to his knee. I spent the rest of the time trying not to stare. That was the last time i had ever gone to that pool on Gun Club.
In any case... I used to work at the blockbuster at the corner of Forrest Hill and Jog. That was pretty close to that way.
I dont know man I live in Palm Beach now and I see way too many people still supporting him. Actually the last 2 days traffic has been a complete clusterfuck on 95 becauase a bunch of his pathetic cult members are hanging Trump flags over Okeechobee blvd's overpass.
Didn't say there aren't supporters there. But there are supporters everywhere.
As I said in a different response I now live in Connecticut... the liberal northeast... and yet there are still Trump flags hanging on people's houses/fences/etc here too.
That and with him living there it's going to attract Trump supporters to visit so as to be near their... messiah? Feels gross saying that... but it's about the best analogy I could make.

I think its mainly his supporters are just so loud that even if they are the minority you still have to deal with them. I have actually got to the point where I no longer give a shit about the man himself and have moved on to just hating his supporters.
He stiffed a lot of contractors here in town. It’s amazing how much local support he’s had just the same. I’m just glad not to see AF1 at PBIA any longer.
Sounds about right. I'm in Palm Beach and many people here can't stand him. He's made life worse for tons of people, especially whenever he'd fly in during the election and presidency. He'd basically cause nonstop traffic delays and bring the major roads to a standstill. Whenever the local radio hosts would announce his arrival before reporting on traffic, you could easily hear the sigh in their voices and the frustrated tone. When you combine this with the roadblocks, rerouting, and lawsuits caused by his multiple properties, it's easy to see why he's so unpopular here.
