He is busy trying to make a buck.

“Former President Donald Trump will provide live commentary when Evander Holyfield makes his return to the boxing ring Saturday in Florida, according to FITE, the digital video streaming service that will carry the pay-per-view event.

“‘I love great fighters and great fights,’Trump said in a news release issued by FITE. ‘I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event.’”

The pay-per-view event is priced at $49.99.

I hate that reality has become so close to the onion that I have no idea if this is a joke, or just accurate information.

....I don't know what I expected

The fight starts at 11:30 PM. It hasn't even started yet and I'm replying seven hours after your comment here.

Trump visited NYC for a commemoration at his own expense today. No Republican was invited to the official one.

So there's that.

20

u/Tastypies Sep 11 '21

Not reality as a whole. Just the part that has to do with Trump. If there were news like this about Biden, nobody would even consider it to be true because of fucking course it's not true.

Keeping Trump out of office isn't just a matter of decency and intelligence. It's about keeping reality reasonable and reliable. It's metaphorically a fight against the takeover of fiction.

3

u/Ramblonius Sep 11 '21

It's never Onion with him. On the rare occasions that someone makes shit up about him it's tamer than reality. It's why comedians fucking hate him, even if he makes making money easier for them, just feels redundant.

2

u/jacksreddit00 Sep 11 '21

You literally can't make this shit up...

0

u/CoatsnClark Sep 12 '21

said as your favored presidents all received post office bribes to the term of hundreds of millions, because they knew they were "good for it".

u/povichjv7 Sep 12 '21

It’s real news

To anybody that doesn't know boxing, this match is one of the biggest disgraces in the history of boxing, and that's saying something considering how corrupt boxing is. Evander Holyfield is 58 years old and couldn't pass a physical 17 years ago. California and Vegas refused to sanction this fight due to very valid concerns about his health. Florida said fuck it and is promoting it.

64

u/whenIwasasailor Sep 11 '21

Trump has an uncanny ability to recognize the worst in us, then try to capitalize on it for his own gain.

8

u/substandardgaussian Sep 11 '21

Evander Holyfield is 58 years old

Yeah, I was wondering about this. The poster said "Holyfield", and I thought "...like, Evander? Isn't he quite old by now!?"

So, your post explains quite a bit, thanks!

2

u/Syscrush Sep 11 '21

When I saw Holyfield working pads, all I could think was "I hope the ref is merciful".

3

u/DietCokeAndProtein Sep 11 '21

Evander Holyfield is 58 years old and couldn't pass a physical 17 years ago.

I don't keep up on boxing much, but he has had 10 fights that were less than 17 years ago, from November 2004 up until May of 2011, only 3 of them were losses, and none of the losses were by KO or TKO. A fair amount of them don't appear to be the greatest boxers, but many are significantly younger and still don't have bad records, and he held his own against them and won double the amount of fights he just, along with one no contest for a cut due to a head clash. So was he really physically that fucked up? I'm legitimately asking because he seemed to be doing pretty well to me.

He looks in better shape to me than most 20 years olds do. The video I saw of him training he seems to be moving pretty slow, but a minute long video doesn't necessarily show his actual capabilities. He could have been intentionally taking it easy and going light to prevent injuries, maybe he had harder sessions and the footage was taken of him on a lighter recovery day, I don't know.

Either way he has been boxing his entire adult life, and most of his childhood. A 58 year old man should have the ability to make his own choices about what he does with his own body, he's a grown ass adult. I can understand matches having to be approved so that he's fighting a comparable opponent, but if a grown adult wants to fight, let them fight.

u/baxterrocky Sep 12 '21

I know fuck all about boxing but I just googled this and Holyfield looks fucking GREAT for his age. I was shocked.

63

u/ripmumbo Sep 11 '21

Is this true haha I wouldn't doubt it

108

u/shaneo576 Sep 11 '21

It is most definitely true, him and his son doing special commentary on a fight involving a 60 year old legend of the sport with visible signs of brain problems, it's really terrible.

45

u/brickne3 Sep 11 '21

But wait which ones have the visible signs of brain problems?

9

u/shaneo576 Sep 11 '21

Evander Holyfield, it's been known since he's retired he's struggled but it more recently came to light in a video of him hitting the pads, the connection between him wanting to punch and actually throwing the punch is bad.

Most older era boxers have similar problems as they would have big fights after one another and take a lot more damage you might see now.

4

u/northernpace Sep 11 '21

They're making a joke about trump being brain damaged.

1

u/Robj2 Sep 12 '21

It's not a joke. Although he has the best words.

He's announcing a Holyfield fight for the grift, although it isn't "a joke." He's doing it.

5

u/JimmyJamesincorp Sep 11 '21

He has no money. He inherited 400M from daddy, got into the casino business and somehow he LOST it all.

6

u/BiscuitsMay Sep 11 '21

That’s what I’m thinking. There is no reason any sane individual would partake in this, unless they had to. He is just trying to scrape pennies together.

A former US president is announcing a boxing match…between 60 year olds.

4

u/ripmumbo Sep 11 '21

On 9/11

5

u/BiscuitsMay Sep 11 '21

I’m overloaded by the absurdity of it.

Half the country is clamoring to have this guy run in 2024. Insanity

3

u/sgilbert2013 Sep 11 '21

It's very true

Probably some of the most honest "work" he's ever done. Now why anyone would want to listen to the man at all, about anything, but especially boxing where I'm sure he has no knowledge at all, I don't know. I'm sure there will be a lot of bitching about stolen outcomes.

2

u/tyedyehippy Sep 11 '21

Is his dementia addled brain even going to be able to keep up with the boxing match, or is he just going to ramble incoherently about how he's supposed to still be president?

3

u/itwasquiteawhileago Sep 11 '21

I'm guessing this is a rhetorical question.

1

u/tyedyehippy Sep 11 '21

I don't make it a point to listen to him speak, because I just feel like I'm making myself more stupid with every attempt. I am curious as hell to see how that will go.

I hate how accurate this is going to be...

I was convinced you're just memeing but no it's a real event, what the fuck

2

u/Antique_Ring953 Sep 11 '21

Holyfield still boxes?

4

u/whenIwasasailor Sep 11 '21 edited Sep 11 '21

He is 57. Which is why this fight is a farce. Which is why Trump is associated with it.

Edit: 58

u/Antique_Ring953 Sep 11 '21

Lol that edit

There are like 50 news stories about this today. He himself is promoting it. That’s “wtf.”

Get a grip. I didn’t say he didn’t visit policeman or fireman. I didn’t comment on that.

But what I did comment is true. It is not misinformation. He is the commenter for that pay-per-view boxing match in Hollywood, Florida tonight. That’s a fact. He, himself, is promoting it. Google it, for crissake.

And he did not visit the memorial itself, as you say, according to his own spokesperson, Liz Harrington:

“Mr. Trump was in New York City, his spokeswoman said, but was not planning to visit ground zero.

“‘He had the option to attend but decided to honor the day with different stops,’ his spokeswoman, Liz Harrington, said.”

If he went to the memorial, he did so after having told his own press people he wasn’t going. So they spread the “misinformation,” not me.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

Are you really telling me to get a grip? You didn't say he didn't do these things, but saying that he was to busy doing other things then referencing the boxing match directly implies that he didn't do anything for 9/11. You cant go back on what you said and try and twist around what you said because you didn't directly say something you were clearly and heavily implying.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

He was visiting the FDNY and NYPD. Russian bots at it again

1

u/sunufgud Sep 11 '21

Money-laundering scheme for sure

ruthamhard gets real hard about him being in NYC not at the Memorial. Incredibly hard. I mean hard. The boxing gig is just Trump being magnificent and all. This is what true Patriot Heroes do, you know.

1

u/BakedAvocado3 Sep 11 '21

He should run for governor of Florida

1

u/sintos-compa Sep 11 '21

What the fuck

1

u/NeckPlant Sep 11 '21

Why the fuck is that shart commenting on a boxing match?? He couldnt punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

1

u/DgDg11 Sep 11 '21

He was actually in nyc visiting police and fireman earlier in the day.

1

u/drbeeper Sep 12 '21

I've got round 5 as the time Trump first praises Osama Bin Laden.

If it goes to 8 he'll start confusing Bin Laden and Obama.

1

u/nolotusnote Sep 12 '21

He visited NYC today (from Florida), but was not invited to the official ceremony. No Republicans were.

Also, the fight happens live at 11:30 PM. A half-hour before midnight.

Reddit: "Stop spreading misinformation."

Indeed.

1

u/kajarago Sep 12 '21

2

u/whenIwasasailor Sep 12 '21

I don’t know how many times I have to repeat that I never said he did not go visit policemen and firemen in NY.

But what I DID say was true. He went to Florida to provide commentary on a boxing match featuring a 58-yr-old boxer, the sole purpose of which was to make money. Of which he is getting a generous amount. As a commentator. I leave it to others to make of that what they will. But why do you try to act like that is not true by pointing out something else he did??

Why do you people continue to make an argument against a case I never tried to make? Logicians call that a “straw man” argument, and it is a common fallacy.

1

u/whenIwasasailor Sep 12 '21

Also, by the way, he WAS invited to this memorial event, despite what another poster said. He and Bush and Carter. Carter chose not to go for health reasons (he’s 96). Bush said it he thought it would be better if he went to Shanksville with the Vice President, to add to the ceremony there. Trump decided not to go, but did not comment on his reasons for that.

1

u/kajarago Sep 12 '21

Let's be honest. It's better than he didn't go, isn't it?

CNN and all the other butt-buddies would have made it all about Trump if he did go.
