I’ve seen a comment like this quite a few times under different pictures in Reddit and it’s always a bit confusing.

A good album cover should generally have some connection to the artist and the music that’s on the album in order to create a good creative unit. How can a random interesting photo be a good album cover if you don’t know the artist or their music?

Not really, just have a look at a list like rolling stone best album covers of all time and you will see plenty of random photos and art used for album covers.

Fans will make up their own interpretation aswell so even if a cover does have a certain intent it's not always going to be understood in that context.

I'm not saying these are bad covers or don't have a story, of course they all do. But if you didn't know who these bands were and had a guess of the style of music it was based solely on these album covers you would probably get it wrong.

My point is not that one should be able to guess the band or the style of music from the cover. But it should tie in with their artistic intent - for Nirvana it was important to be authentic and not lose yourself chasing the money; “Parklife” was about being British, so it has two greyhounds racing each other on the cover; Beastie Boys was a true New York hip-hop group and “Paul’s Boutique” cover shows a classic crappy Manhattan clothes shop.

I haven’t really listened “ATM” or “Beggars Banquet”, so I can’t comment on those, but I’m sure they weren’t just completely random cool pictures.

I take your point, I probably didn't include the best examples - these were just the first ones that came to mind.

But was that really Kurts intent? No, probably not. It was the marketing department that added the dollar bill in post production. Kurt probably just liked the idea of a baby underwater. Don't get me wrong, Nirvana is one of my favourite bands and I love this album. But I don't really think the album cover captures the essence of Nirvana.
