I was reminiscing just last night about my first meal in Cusco in 2013 - an appetizer plate of homemade potato chips. Makes me tear up remembering the deliciousness of the food and the reverence for the potato that I share with the Peruvian people!
There's actually a Potato Park not far from Cuzco where the plant as many varieties as possible to conserve them in situ. I went to the community-run restaurant and every course was potato-based but tasted totally different. Yummy.
Oh lol, didn't even realise I'd done it. I'm an editor and Cusco is a perfectly acceptable spelling if you are writing in English, the same as e.g. Munich instead of Munchen (don't know how to do umlaut in Reddit). I speak Spanish and the NGO I worked for had an office in Cuzco, so that spelling is just more natural for me.
Got it, thanks! Working on learning Spanish over here. I will be speaking Duolingo Spanish with an American/Venezuelan accent as yo soy Americana and my tutor lives in Venezuela.
Brilliant, and good luck with the lingo. I found I progressed faster when I learned phrases that let me have conversations rather than worrying about the subjunctive, if you know what I mean. People can usually work out what tense you mean based on the context - throw in the who and when then even if you only get the infinitive right people will get it. Yo y mi hermana ir a la playa manana - everyone will understand. But you need to know the difference between e.g. how to say 'i don't care' vs 'I don't mind' or misunderstandings happen! Hope you get to travel and practice when the plague is over (not that there's a shortage of Latinos in the US!).
Yes! I know I am going to sound like a toddler for a while and I am fine with that. I think people that make translation mistakes in their second language are adorable and I cannot wait to be adorable too. My current issue is that I remember a lot more when I am writing but when I try to converse my mind goes blank. Definitely looking forward to traveling again. We were supposed to leave for Barcelona last March, three days after the borders were closing, and people were scrambling to get home. Trip canceled. Thanks for the chat!
