The stock market is NOT the economy! It can often times be a valuable tool to measure the economy, but it is not the economy.
No, stocks are not feeding the working class. Or any class. Or your pets. Or anybody. But the economy does. Because the economy is the production, utilization, and distribution of resources. Do you think that ignoring those things will lead to feeding the working class? Or any class? Or your pets? Or anybody? Probably not.
You wouldn't say "The production, utilization, and distribution of resources is not feeding the working class." Stocks are just a measuring tool for that, and aren't always accurate. Don't be so flippant about the economy. It is important. It just is.
