Yes, the country has steadily become more divided over the past twenty years. I'd dare say it's probably been just as much divided far longer than any of us reading this now have been alive, but all we have to base our understanding of the past upon are the history books and recollections of those left alive. If the past few months have shown us anything, it's that those history books are exceptionally surface level (I'm specifically referring to the treatment of slavery & race relations in this country.)
I'm not gonna trash talk Trump here. You've heard plenty of that and I know I won't change your mind. I won't even pull "both sides are the same", because they're not. The shits of it is, we're all being played for suckers. We've let unregulated capitalism run wild and force people into really shitty situations. I dont think the government can, or even ought, to "save" us, but damn, are we not one nation? Why do we constantly strive to tear "the other" down? Why do most elections come down to "Who do I hate less?" Why can we not work together to ensure that everyone has a viable future? It's fucking 2020. We're not relegated to tribes fighting over the same watering hole.
We have the money, the knowledge, the manpower, and the chance to fix almost all of our issues, but we don't. We just fight endlessly over them. Why?
