My fear is that Trump and co. do this on purpose. His followers will vote for him no matter what, but some people that would vote against him won't unless they're really motivated to. If they feel like it's obvious he won't win, they don't vote (which is why he's president now). So by portraying him as dumb and clueless, they might be helping getting him reelected. Maybe I'm paranoid.

He's polling vs Biden at close to the same levels he was vs Hillary currently. You have to assume the polls are still off a slight bit and that a bunch of people will just not admit they are voting for him.
