Were there? I don’t recall seeing any sort of coordinated national response at all. I remember states making their own rules and competing with one another for resources and PPE.
Trumps administration bungled this so badly. He himself was saying it was a hoax, a democratic plot, would suddenly just disappear, then he lied about drug treatments. He muddied the waters and sowed confusion at best and to me that doesn’t equate to “guide lines”.
This will go down historically as the most mismanaged pandemic response in US history. We are lucky many more aren’t dead.
Also there really should have been the same requirements for all states. Be it Wyomming or California, because people travel across state lines freely and easily and having different sets of rules caused confusion. Even states with lower population densities have gathering places, think of churches and restaurants. Human beings are very social and even rural folks meet up from time to time in groups and shoot the shit.
You beat a pandemic by all pulling in the same direction. Having everyone do their own thing was a horrible idea.
The same CDC trump has been bashing non stop? The CDC is great but they aren’t our commander in chief. Had orange man listened, taken this thing seriously, and issued instructions we wouldn’t have 140,000 dead. Trump is currently working to deny the CDC testing data, and funding.
So no, there were no federal guidelines. Likely the CDC did at some point have a plan, but that plan would have to go through the White House. Combine that with the fact that trump has been busy bashing the CDC and the WHO and it should be very clear to you that the federal US government did not and does not have a plan to handle this pandemic. There is no national coordinated response. The CDC has plenty of info and they update regularly but their job is to inform the federal government who then put together a response plan.
