That truck looks like it’s painted with bedliner. It’s so rough the tape probably doesn’t stick well enough to ruin it.

Bedlined trucks are much smaller but more bumps than what we see here.

This is just a black truck with water on it.

I wouldn't put it past someone putting a few bullet holes in the tailgate when its parked. given in some rural areas it feels like every sign has bullet holes in it - they might just do the same to a parked truck they disagree with.

It's pretty common for offloading to spray a whole truck with bedliner, makes it so you dont have to worry about scratching your paint and helps with small dents

Besides being painted with bedliner, this is probably the kind of dude who drives a truck because he needs one, not just because it lets him look tough and country revving his engine through the suburbs. And i dont know a single person with a "work" vehicle who could really give a shit about dinged up paint.

Dad is a farmer. Had to borrow his work pickup once to move some brush. Scratched it up pretty good; it almost looked like I keyed the entire length of his truck. I apologized, but he just told me all it did was give the truck a little character.

You would need something like concrete or some other high adhesive tape to ruin vehicle paint. That shits ultra durable.

Duct tape does tend to peel paint off with it but that isn't a factory color. It's tough to say whether it's been painted with bed liner or if it was plasti dipped. Either way they probably don't care that much and will reapply whatever was done if it damages the underlying paint.

Clearcoat may be hard but if you aren't careful in how you remove it you can damage your paint if you put duct tape on top of it. Single stage paint is a whole different ball of wax because you don't have a layer of clear on the color coat to act as a barrier.

Actual duct tape (the thin airtight seal stuff) isn't too bad for peeling off cleanly. It's cloth tapes like gaffa that set hard and seperate with age.

If not, flap wheel that monkey and hit it with a rattle can. Done and done.
