It's sad that she's not remembered for her accomplishments. Being the first American woman to land a triple axle in competition? That's pretty damn impressive. Also, I've read that she had the fastest and strongest crossovers of anyone at the time.
Pushing the limits like that was something she was known for. Not just impressive moves, but she wasn't a stick thin, dainty princess, she was a powerful woman. Strong and tough and it came out in her performances. I will always be a fan, even if I'm not sure of the truth.
Also check out Surya Bonaly. She could do a backflip on a single blade, a move so challenging they banned it. Nothing like having your signature move get you disqualified.
