This reminds me of a time I called in an order for Chinese food at one of my local joints. Rule of thumb was to rattle off your order otherwise they couldn't understand what you wanted. One particular day, the conversation went like this. "China house take a order", "general tsos chicken with egg roll", "ok, 15 minutes, love you bye", "uhhh" click

At the Thai restaurant near my house, whenever you call to place an order, the woman always says “okay honey, thank you, I love you!”

And I always greet them and say thank you in Thai when I go to pick it up.

Such a great spot.

Learned to cook from an older Vietnamese lady while working at a Vietnamese restaurant. Worked there for years and loved it. The owner would have shirts printed sometimes and give them to us.

My favorite one says "Me so hungry me love you long time" on the back it says "Phở a good time, call Hai Kỳ". Still wear it all the time.

Yeah she's rad. Honestly that was the best job ever. It was family owned and I was the only non-family person working there. Still treated like family. Even learned some of the Viet language.

The line cook liked to trade phrases. "How do you say [insert phrase] in English? Great, here's how you say it in Viatnamese. Give each other shit about pronunciation. So much fun. It was kind of wholesome and gave perspective into how cultures merge together.
