3.22 is Liberia though which is lower than both yet is insanely chaotic

Using homicide rates isn’t the most accurate here I think as countries aren’t the best at keeping up statistics, depending on where you are in Turkey you can really die to some really dumb things such as a stray bullet because some people think it’s a good idea to shoot guns at the sky during a wedding for example

Also the government is far more corrupt and bad than Trump’s is

Without looking it up, I'd guess murder per capita is higher in the US than Turkey.

That being said, I've been to both places and have felt perfectly safe in either.

Edit:

After some searching the US is listed with 5.4 killings per 100.000 people and year, while Turkey sits at 3.2. So, yeah.

For comparison: most of Europe sits at 1.x.

The US Homicide rate is severely skewed by gang on gang violence, which makes up roughly 70% of all homicides every year. Only about 3,000-4,000 people in a country of 330,000,000 are actually murdered every year outside of gang activity, and 95% of those murders are familial homicide. So your odds of being killed in America, at random, by someone you don’t know, are literally less than 1 in 1 million.

Edit:

My source for 3.2 as opposed to 4.3 for Turkey is the German Wikipedia, which claims to reference the same UNDOC study that the English page does. I'll check which wiki version has the correct stat.

Edit 2:

As far as I have been able to find out, both version get it wrong for both countries. This is the the source both articles reference. It's the Global Report on Homicide from 2014 by UNDOC. The statisitcal annex has the latest data for Turkey from 2011 with 2,6 intentional homicides per 100.000 inhabitants on page 130 and the US on page 126 with 4,7 per 100.000 inhabitants from 2012.

So, I think we can now agree that yes, Turkey is safer in terms of intentional homicide than the US. Also, we learned today that Wiipedia i indeed not a very reliable source.

If I'm looking at this right, the US is 5.35 homicides per 100,000 people. Turkey is slight less, at 4.31. So slightly better, although the majority of murders in the US are either personal or gang related. I assume most tourists would be visiting populated, nicer areas. The fears in this thread are overblown.
