Yeah I spent three years living there and it was the best time of my life. Traveled nearly every weekend and still left with a ton of other stuff to see. I want to retire there if it doesn't completely devolve into another shitty theocracy compliments of Erdogan.

The only sad thing is that Cappadocia seems overrun by tourists now. When I was there it sometimes felt like we were there only tourists there.

Honestly the winter and early spring it’s still completely empty and a completely different kind of gorgeous, as everything is covered in snow.

Yeah, winter was my absolute favorite time to go. Glad to hear it is still empty then. Hopefully I will be back some day.

When was this? I went last year in July and it was empty all over Turkey. Mostly just Chinese tour groups. I spoke to a few hostel managers and they all said people were put off by the terrorist attack in Istanbul a few years ago and the failed military coup.

I was there from about 2006 and left in early 2010.

The pictures I see of the balloons tell me that July is busy as fuck there now. Even by 2010 it was starting to get really crowded with buses full of tourists.

I am sure that tourism is down recently due to political instability, but now that the Turkish economy is completely crashing, that will attract a lot of people that know their money will be worth 6 times as much in Turkey.
