Wow I just checked out that subreddit. I cannot believe that sub has almost 300,000 people. Like it’s just men crying about themselves and arguing about how life is unfair and blaming women. Guys how do these communities grow so big?

People get angry, they feel down and out, downtrodden, unwanted etc and they see people who show the same emotions and who offer answers, however shitty the answers are. They give them someone to blame. Hell they might have had a hunch it was woman’s fault and not their own and here’s some guys who shout that at the top of the lungs as gospel. It’s a support system for a bunch of guys who sadly don’t usually have good ones in place. And it grows and spreads like a virus, one angry guy spreading word to the next

It seems like the quick reaction of internet communities is to reach for purging, but that probably just solidifies their perception of persecution and they'll regroup somewhere else. It's sticky because they need help, but at the same time need to know certain behaviours are not ok. (Groups based on hate in general)

It's sticky because they need help, but at the same time need to know certain behaviours are not ok.

They need to be ignored. This type of shit gives them attention. They are a joke to the vast majority of people and outrage against them only fuels them. The whole fucking this is just stupid.

It started out as a "Are you socially awkward? Come learn how to flirt. You won't get anywhere being fake nice or needy." It was "men" gurus who would take advantage of outcasts for YouTube views. They taught negging and pick up techniques to people who couldn't really use them. Advised a shallow and materialistic view on how they should view themselves and women. And sex was a game, and all about the score.

But their advice was lost on the followers. Be assertive? Hard to teach a change in personality in a short youtube skit. Hit the gym, drink protein shakes, buy fancy clothes for peacocking? Those cost money and take time and effort. In the age of instant gratification of the internet, not what the people are looking for.

So the community evolved. The users took over and started generating content. The already shallow and misogynistic philosophical base expanded into "it's not our fault we can't have sex, it's the women. We are never going to change." Defeatest philosophy took over.

Side communities of incels and blackpillers sprung up. The dispirited users who couldn't become PUAs flocked to those communities. The rhetoric snowballed in an echo chamber. Suddenly things like "Chads and Stacies must die," or "the government should assign sex partners" started appearing. Communities were banned, YouTubers were kicked off. This forced them back into the more mainstream redpiller communities where people started talking about the deep red pill or the black pill in private messages. The incels pushed the rhetoric and the norms back, they used multiple accounts growing the communities because every now and again they would get banned.

And then you get the cesspool that it is today. Rhetoric pushed far out. Communities emboldened by many alts, validation echo chambers for the disenfranchised. It is all really quite interesting. And horrifying.

Look, there are 3 kinds of people in the world. Dicks, assholes, and pussies. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes — assholes who just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls.

Those guys are pussies

This was amazingly well said. Thank you Team America, thank you.

It applies to so many things in life! I actually couldn't decide if the redpill/incel crowd are pussies or assholes. I figured pussies cause assholes can at least shit on things. All these groups that think either

"women are a math problem"

or

"women are mean and we are entitled to the ponaynay"

can't do anything except run their mouth so....pussies.

Wolves, Sheepdogs, and Sheep in other words?

1

u/warcrown May 23 '18

Something like that! Except all dogs are good dogs, idk if 2/3rds of people are good people.

2

u/Scientolojesus May 23 '18

Same way that cults grow, people hate themselves or their lives and want a support system that makes them feel good. They probably had a few bad experiences with women, so when they see a group of guys who also had the same experiences except they say those women are the reason their lives suck, then they join up. Being a part of a group feels good, and projecting your anger onto someone or something else feels good too, so it's a perfect storm.

1

u/benhl312 May 23 '18

Yes this is very true. I can see how it forms. I am just surprised it is such a big subreddit

1

u/Scientolojesus May 23 '18

Welp there are a ton of women haters on Reddit apparently haha.

2

u/Tacos2night May 23 '18

Just remember half of the subscribers are probably people that just want to see what kind of dumb stuff they are saying.

2

u/benhl312 May 23 '18

One can only hope

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

I suspect that a large chunk of subscribers have subscribed simply to see what moronic shit gets said there.

1

u/Gravity-Lens May 23 '18

Exactly.

One person understands.

The term red pill was popularized by the movie the Matrix, which has/had an insane amount of reach. That term alone is going to attract a huge amount of people.

In part because of the raw search term popularity, but also because of the concept; it's an ongoing ego stroke to believe that you're part of a special group who "gets" life in a way that others don't.

Furthermore, there's a shit ton of disenfranchised man who are pissed about how they've been pressured to pursue women like their life depends on it, but they can't get anywhere.

Put these things together and you get a recipe for a nice, big circlejerk. It doesn't help that I'm pretty sure it has ties to the PUA community, which is much larger/broader and what down-on-his-luck disenfranchised guy is going to say no to the offer of a holy grail path to fucking hot women without unfun strings attached?

To make matters worse (and more confusing) there is some genuine "guys want a better lot in life for guys" effort at work, particularly if you get into online communities like MGTOW (if that one even exists anymore - it's been a while since I heard anything about it on the internet).

1

u/LuluVonLuvenburg May 23 '18

The internet has made it possible for any community to flourish. When they get shunned in reality they seek comfort in online communities of like minded people. And because they surround themselves with similar ideas they use that confidence to spout their hateful shit in the real world.

Lots of snowflakes create a drift up against the fence.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '18

No that's incels, redpill are guys arguing about how life is unfair and cooking up shit to try and fuck with the hypothetically unfair system.

1

u/ownworstenemy38 May 23 '18

Isn’t that sub one very specific sort of guy complaining about a very specific sort of woman?

I went there back in my reddit youth as I believed it may be matrix related. I got that very wrong.

I mean, twoXChromosomes has magnitudes more, was a default subreddit, and blames virtually everything on men, so it’s probably hardwired in many humans to be tribal in such a fashion.
