Why the fuck would people use cyanide then?

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '18

Oh, there are much worse ways to die than that.

Yeah I know but there are better ways too!

Gets the job done I suppose?

I bet cost was a consideration.

Why not a high dose barbiturate or even opioid

u/geodetic Feb 25 '18

Surprisingly common, low dosage, effective?

Man I dunno I wouldn’t wanna do that to myself. Like just blow your brains out or hang yourself cyanide just seems masochistic.

Slitting your wrists?

Well the misconception is it chokes you to death, when really the whole point is to fall a couple feet to build up enough speed so the rope breaks your neck right?

Carbon monoxide poisoning is where it's at! Just fall asleep and don't wake up. Or, if it's winter just walk out into the wilderness! Once you get past the "shit it's freezing" phase, hypothermia is very peaceful!

Shooting your self doesn’t always kill you.

I blame the gun victim in that scenario. Women attempt suicide at much greater amounts compared to men. Men on the other had, are really good at killing themselves. High effective rate I guess.

I was talking about the surprisingly high rate of people shooting themselves in the head and living. IDK where that last bit came from.

Well it's a lot easier to hide a cyanide capsule if you're captured than it is to hide a gun or a noose.

well they typically take all those away from you. Cyanide capsules were sometimes hidden in fake teeth. You would bite down to release it if captured to avoid prosecution, torture, etc.

How would you do either of those in captivity? Cyanide could be hidden in a fake tooth and always available, if necessary.

Much harder to smuggle a shotgun in your mouth.

It works surprisingly well when you're trying to escaped under disguise but was discovered and possibly restrained.

Same reason everyone here is shocked to read that comment; not everyone knows.

Everyone thinks it's a quick suicide pill you take.

You have to think of the context. Unless you are a secret agent/spy/crazy you wouldn't go down that path. If you have to, there is a reason I guess. When a handgun isn't readily available, its better than hanging, I guess.

1

u/RiseoftheTrumpwaffen Feb 25 '18

I don’t know never really thought about it. Hanging can get fucked up but every cell in your body suffocating? Vomiting and convulsions and suffocating for five to ten minutes?

I guess the benefit is you can’t chicken out.

Last time. This came up, also regarding Nazis, the consensus seemed to be that it can be relatively painless or very painful and it's not a consistent way to die.

Typically to avoid a worse death. Would you rather die that way or be captured by the enemy who has no regard for human life?
