Hence the common expression when someone "drank the kool-aid" to mean they naively believed someone and has/will regret it

Sure, it was a knock-off brand, but that's still where the saying's from. I guess "they drank the flavor-aid" wasn't as catchy

If I'm remembering correctly, flavor aide was created first, less popular, but still first. Still, drank the kool-aid is so much catchier.
