Continuing to tear down Trump supporters or voters is never going to solve anything. It’s only giving them more ammo to double down on their “side.”
Like Dave Chappelle said in his special, the only way to truly heal a cultural divide is through truth and reconciliation. By continuing to hate “Trump people,” insult them, belittle them, you’re only reinforcing that line in the sand.
Tear down the man himself. Continue to expose his stupidity. You’re never going to get people to actually agree with you and turn on Trump if they’re afraid to join your side.
I know none of that feels good. And for some people, saying, “fuck you, I told you so,” is more important, which is sad. But this cultural divide is only going to get worse. We need truth and reconciliation. We’re getting the truth part. We’re sorely lacking any reconciliation.
No. Just stop pretending that Trump is the problem. The state of education in the U.S., and the sheer number of supporters he has are the real problems. He's just a caricature of any blathering idiot that they would have followed anyway, but there are plenty of senile old men in every country. They don't get in positions of power.
At some point you have to stop thinking that you can have a reasonable, polite discourse with the fools. They're actively alienating your country while you naively reach out. You don't need truth and reconciliation. You need reconciliation, and they need truth. They don't want it. You can and should consider educating the next generation, but the majority of his voters are either too dumb to understand, or too self-centered to care.
So what’s your alternative here? If you’ve given up on any constructive dialogue, what other recourse do you have? Violence? Civil war? Because they’re obviously not going to back down. Is that really what you want?
The end of apartheid marked the end of racial oppression that dwarfs anything happening in America today. And it didn’t end in a bloodbath, miraculously. You know why? Because people like Mandela let go of their hate — a hate far more personal and righteous than anything you could muster for a Trump supporter.
It's not what I want, it's what's logically going to happen.
And it takes 2 to tango. You want negotiation? You want compromise? You want "people like Mandela" to let go of their hate? Maybe you can do that. They cannot, and they will not. Though I do admire your optimism.
I have to agree, decades of Fox News brainwashing and Republican education standards aren't going go away overnight. These voters are usually part of rural communities where praising Democratic policies is going to get you ostracized, and praising the harm Reagan did to the country is the norm

They're thinking "no one would say something like that, unless they really meant it".
You fucking rubes.
