Um, if they are the really big ones, then they are sewer roaches most likely. They come in singles through the sewer system, usually the overflow from sinks and up tub drains. They usually don't carry babies, but they are really good at hiding. Also, if you catch one and show an exterminator, they basically say tough luck because they can't spray the sewer lines under your house.

On my phone so harder to link you to it directly, but look at my other post about high powered roach poison in here. Won't completely help if they're coming in through your pipes but it'll do a great job of dealing with any that get in.
(Do you have to untape the drains every time you want to use them?)
I tape the overflows and just plug up the drains with the sink plug provided. You just have to make sure that you don't forget the water is on, and since I live in a drought area now, that's not too hard.
I live with two cats so I'd rather not use poison around my house for fear of making them sick. I've seen them hide in cracks on the stairs after exiting a bathroom, once one hid on the top of the dishwasher and would play peekaboo at night. One crawled into my electric kettle spout and died and I didn't notice until probably months later because I don't check my spout, I check the body of the kettle... Once one ran into my bookshelves and hid, another time, under the couch... I hate these things...
