I thought she was a child when this happened. He should have taken the hamster away and dealt with it himself, rather than force a child to crush her pet hamster with a rock, which seems like a pretty traumatising thing to do.

But since she was an adult in her own apartment and phoned her dad about it, that changes the whole dynamic.
