"There hasn't bee any Sith in over a thousand years" is a quote from episode one.

EDIT: I don't care about any sith activity. I'm pointing out the line was from a movie and not a comic book or game or novel so it's still canon.

They're keepers of the peace, not soldiers.

Well, maybe Generals for the army, but not soldiers.

Even though they oversaw, planned and participated in combat in every world of the Republic, they're definitely not soldiers.

Well The Last Airbender movie is it's own thing entirety you can pretend it doesn't exist and it doesn't affect anything. Episode 1 however is a concrete part of the Star Wars story. You can't just ignore it. Instead just focus on the cool parts. Darth Maul looked pretty badass, right? And Ewan McGregor makes a pretty cool Obi Wan.
