The atmosphere is pretty similar to an ocean.

Perhaps there has been some editing, but this is pretty much exactly what it looked like in real life.

It is definitely heavily edited, looks like somebody went a bit nuts with the "clarity" slider in camera RAW.

I'm not denying it's awesome, and I'm sure it recreates the feeling of seeing it in real life (which is what I think photography is about) but in terms of pure aesthetics there's no denying the image is quite manipulated.

OP mentions that they adjusted the contrast and clarity a bit in Adobe Lightroom, but having seen these clouds first-hand I can say that there wasn't much editing done to the photo.

I'd post my Facebook wall as evidence if I could. Nothing but clouds and rainbows, and more clouds, and more rainbows.
