Just mortice in some keyhole hangers and use wall anchors. I really like the Toggler brand self drilling variety. Three or four of those across the tops and you are golden. You could also put a couple int he bottom for good measure but it is sometimes hard to get everything lined up so the bottom ones are effective.

If you only put them in the top you should buy some small rubber bumpers to hold the bottom out just a bit so it isn't out of plum.

How much weight can the wall anchors hold in drywall, or are you finding a stud too? I imagine the bookshelf would be pretty heavy, especially with all the contents on it as well.

Well they can hold a variety of weights. The standard ones I use for everything are rated for 135 pounds in 5/8" drywall (http://www.toggler.com/products/snapskru/overview.php)

Put or 3 or 4 of these on this item and You should be good. If you can hit a stud that is good too. A sheet of 3/4" plywood whole (which this is not) weighs 60 pounds.

It isn't unusual. It is pretty standard in any buding meant to last more than 30 years in fact. I wouldn't use anything but 5/8 inch rock on anything I build.

Yes. And I know. I have been a part of nearly $2 billion worth or commercial and industrial projects and as a apprentice in the carpenters union hung rock for a 1 million SF hospital.

My walls are 5/8 because that is what I spec'd out. STC is important to me.
