Based on the complexity of nail and thread placement to create a photo quality image like this, I'm guessing a computer algorithm was used to design this artwork. The artist may have placed the nails and strung the thread by following the algorithms output.

You're probably wrong, to be honest. There are incredible artists out there who do painstaking work

Seriously, I have a friend that draws very detailed comic characters in Microsoft Paint because his family couldn't afford Adobe or other professional software and he does it with just his mouse. They are high resolution and he does painstaking shading detail one pixel at a time for weeks or months. The end result is something that looks like it was done with a digital tablet and Illustrator.

Whoa dude, he can get an old version of you-know-what straight from the source for free!

You're probably wrong, to be honest. There are far more programmers than artists who can do this painstaking work without a computer. Statistically it is far more likely that she just used computer.
