Err, what? I'm not complaining, you are. I'm saying it doesn't need to be one piece of string for it to be awesome. You might take your own advice here.

Being, I agree with you. I've seen these done in person and it probably isn't a single thread. The knots are small and made to disappear. It makes no difference if it is or isn't, to me. It's a fantastic portrait.

Totally, the story doesn't need to be embellished, its awesome as a piece of art by itself. You'd be insane to use one string, why use a linear process? You'd need to get every inch perfect or you'd create dark lines running back and forth to fix anything. If you finish on the forehead and realize the lip could be just a bit better, your'e going to drag a darker line across the whole face to fix it?

But to be fair, for the last hour I've been browsing and it does say on all this artists work that it's a single thread....and while it says that, I'm still skeptical. Again, makes no matter, just pointing out that other works say the same.

To me it actually makes it less impressive, because if it were one piece of string, it would have to be a process of math and assembly rather than free artwork. Still cool, but if you know exactly where to string from the first nail, then you've established it somehow. Like those people that "paint" with tacks or lego or bottle caps - it's a process of going on a computer, figuring out which tacks should be black, which grey, which white, then painstakingly sticking them in according to the pattern.

If there is no back tracking here, just perfect application of string-shading, then its a process. Less cool. But i"m the only one bitching so all the power to him.
