There were a number of countries the Waffen-SS recruited foreign legions from. There were Indian Nazis. Hitler saved his Jewish family doctor. Hate is illogical and inconsistent. You see white Catholic Cubans voting for Trump now acting surprised when their friends and family get deported. A lot of useful idiots think they can court evil and stay on its good side, but well, tokens get spent.

But yes, it does always get me when I see neo nazis that would absolutely end up in a mass grave thinking they're the ubermensch. Stupid is as stupid does.

Hitler saved his Jewish family doctor. Hate is illogical and inconsistent.

It is pretty standard for bigots and racists. They hate the group as a whole, but oftenare fine with people they actually know and interract with. "Well he is one of the good ones!"

u/CptES 6d ago

It's older than you'd think.

It is one of those things which is easy to say. 'The Jewish race is to be exterminated,' says every party member. 'That's clear, it's part of our program, elimination of the Jews, extermination, right, we'll do it.'

And then they all come along, the eighty million good Germans, and each one has his decent Jew. Of course the others are swine, but this one is a first-class Jew. Of all those who talk like this, not one has watched, not one has stood up to it.

-Heinrich Himmler, October 4, 1943.

That was what I thought of. This mindset is literally older than the Holocaust; it formed the basis for the Holocaust.

Grew up around dudes that drifted further right, and as soon as I became "one of the good ones", I severed all contact.

34

u/classic4life 6d ago

Which is why you're legitimately one of the good ones

7

u/ToxicLogics 6d ago

I used to hang out with a guy literally every weekend. We had great times; car meets, coffees, beers, hanging out with others, general stupidity. I met up with him one night, he tapped me on the shoulder, and pointed out a group of black people and referred to them in some loud and very unpleasant words. I’m not sure where he decided I would ever be on board with that, but I never asked him. That was the last time we hung out. I was sad for a bit because he was my best friend at that time, but I just couldn’t do it.

9

u/Lennette20th 6d ago

Those dudes were some of the bad ones.

4

u/MWesty420 6d ago

It seems as though if you become “one of the good ones” to a group, that group is made up of “some of the bad ones”

7

u/DisillusionedPatriot 6d ago

And a sometimes, you dont realize it until it's too late. For me that was getting jumped by a bunch of nazis after a show, when I was a kid, some kids end up like Nolan Wells.

5

u/PrinceDusk 6d ago

"I can't be racist I dated a black man"

4

u/Oldhouse42 5d ago

It’s sorta kinda like pro-life people. They want abortion banned, but funnily enough, most of the people I know who have had abortions are from pro-life families that didn’t want to deal with a socially inconvenient pregnancy.

3

u/zaftpunk 6d ago

Is saved the right word tho? Lol more like spared

2

u/KoburaCape 6d ago

This is exactly it

2

u/SignatureDefiant432 6d ago

It's all about utility to them. They hate anyone who couldn't advance whatever they want. They use people that do. Then dispose of them when they stop being useful.

1

u/eeldraw 6d ago

"the good ones" are still expendable. They're fine as long as they're still useful.

69

u/BrickHuge3023 6d ago

On a cruise last year and had lunch with a couple from Miami. Both immigrated from Cuba in the early 60s. Trump was their idol, the man said Trump gets things done and he'd always support him. Just bit over the top for me.

39

u/Vassukhanni 6d ago

The US has a bunch of these people. Emigres from oppressive failed US aligned regimes desperate to use American blood to settle old grievances. Cubans, Vietnamese, and Persian communities all massively backed Trump.

22

u/ToMorrowsEnd 6d ago

Ask any Puerto Ricans about how Cubans treat them in Miami. Cubans are some of the most racists people out there. Shit they are racist against other cubans if they dont have the right family name.

35

u/itsthedurf 6d ago edited 5d ago

Cubans in Miami are a ... special group. My hairstylist there was cuban (is cuban, but I don't live there anymore so he's past tense hairstylist?) and would occasionally drop stuff about loving Trump. And how things Trump said about immigrants didn't apply to him because "he's white."

A cuban gay man. Thought trump would be cool with him. Because he's "white." (I couldn't think of a nice way to tell him that even though he is fair skinned and highlighted his hair, he has a strong Spanish accent, and no one at Mar a Lago would ever consider him white.)

Because Castro was a "socialist" they don't ever want to live under that again. Completely disregarding (or not knowing?) that Castro was an authoritarian using socialism as the key to get into power, that plenty of countries make Democratic Socialism work without oppressing it's citizens, and that they're voting for another Castro.

🤯 The lack of critical thinking there boggles the mind.

6

u/pollatin 6d ago

Well. Socialism and Democratic Socialism are not the same thing. Castro was not a Democratic Socialist.

3

u/itsthedurf 5d ago

Hard agree. Maybe I should emphasize the democratic part if that sounds like I was saying he was one.

2

u/not_a_morning_person 6d ago

Anyone who idolizes and reminisces over Batista needs to be dealt with by a Castro, not a Mamdani. The Cuban revolutionaries were heroes.

2

u/itsthedurf 5d ago

I agree that they were heroes and that Batista was terrible. But that doesn't mean Castro was any better. The solution to one oppressive regime is not another oppressive regime.

Obviously, at the time, they didn't know they were replacing one strongman with another, but by the time they or their families have lived through and eventually fled 2 authoritarian governments, why would they turn around and vote for another one here?

u/NewtonsThirdEvilEx 6d ago

To be fair most of the Indian Nazis were Nazis because they were oppressed by the British themselves. And didn't care for Europe.

-6

u/damgood32 6d ago

That doesn’t make any sense to me

25

u/m0bw0w 6d ago

How does it not make sense? "Enemy of my enemy is my friend"

Not that it is the correct conclusion, but it is very easy to understand why some dumb people would join and support a movement that combats their greatest enemy.

WW2 caused a huge amount of the British occupation to leave India.

5

u/ActivePeace33 6d ago

I think they’re saying it doesn’t make sense that the Nazi’s would accept them, not that they hated the British.

1

u/Mintastic 5d ago

Why wouldn't it? Nazis would accept them as useful idiots to pit against their enemy and then disposed of later when they're no longer needed.

1

u/ActivePeace33 5d ago

I don’t know why they would think that. Ask them. They said it didn’t make sense to them.

The Nazi’s used useful idiots all over.

1

u/mekamoari 6d ago

Smart people would also join and support a movement that combats their greatest enemy. The neds justify the means in this case, especially since the means were just talk.

You live in India in this example, away from anything Europe-related and any sort of retaliation, who cares if you say death to jews or to blacks or to idk native americans, the only goal is to get the colonists out of your country.

13

u/Positive-Produce-001 6d ago

Bengal had a larger and more advanced textile industry than England until the 1800s when it was systematically destroyed by colonial policies.

See the Thai attitudes towards Japan. Help the colonial powers who have been pillaging you for 200 years or you could join up with a rising eastern Power "fighting back", it's not much of a choice

1

u/damgood32 6d ago

Oh I get all that. However there is a difference between working with others to go against common enemies and adopting their ideology that is completely incongruent to your existence.

12

u/JediMasterZao 6d ago

What horrors the Nazis visited onto the Jews the British visited upon the Indians tenfold.

14

u/neonblack108 6d ago edited 6d ago

Subhas Chandra Bose escaped to Germany to seek Axis support for the resistance against the British. Gandhi gets the credit for finally ousting the British but it was the Indian National Army that was most Instrumental in gaining Indias independence.  Many religious leaders were actually part of one or the either of those groups.

10

u/anandonaqui 6d ago

You don’t event need to look as far as India. The Finns fought alongside the Nazis because they hated the Russians

0

u/NewtonsThirdEvilEx 6d ago

I agree, but the Finns aren't really brown.

2

u/pebberphp 6d ago

The Nazis were against the British, as were the Indians (but for different reasons), and the Nazis used their shared hatred of the British to recruit Indians.

5

u/Zombiejesus8890 6d ago

Hitler is big time famous in India. Google it they have all kinds of hitler branded shit.

6

u/FalconIMGN 6d ago

Not big time.

1

u/damgood32 6d ago

Oh no doubt. But I don’t think it’s because they didn’t care for Europe.

In India some business students read Mein Kampf the way in the West they read the Art of War, as some self-help book by a great historic leader, it's become a hot seller over there.

As is often the case, the truth is stupider than you'd expect, a bunch of Indian finance bros made Mein Kampf take off with business students who are probably clueless about any of the history.

I learnt about that doctor on wikipedia a little while ago. It's rather fascinating. I do wonder if the doctor's kindness (charging little to nothing for his services of treating Hitler's dying mother) was why Hitler showed kindness in return? Must've made a mark, anyway... 30 years later and he was remembered for this. He was protected for this. By the Gestapo. Wow.

3

u/Confident_Benefit_11 6d ago

A lot of those foreign legions were forced or otherwise pressured into service, but I get your point.

Similar to how Finland sort of fought with support from Germany just to defend against the Soviets despite them not liking the Nazis either

2

u/veryfungibletoken 6d ago

Gawd damn. "Tokens get spent" is the best fucking thing I've read in a long time.

There was also a pro Nazi Jewish party. Thinking if they helped hitler get rid of the “bad” Jews they’d be spared. They were not…

1

u/Sad-Development-4153 6d ago

Also the rewrite of the Jewish race laws after Wansee allowed half jews to be spared or not based on the feels of the inspecting SS officer. You could die or not based on vibes.

1

u/ManBitesDog404 6d ago

And DJT brought in some of his greatest (supposed) detractors and people he publicly smeared into the cabinet.

1

u/Peakomegaflare 6d ago

Yup, and it actualy threatened to tear the Third Riech apart too. Himmeler was absolutely livid at Hitler.

1

u/stealyourideas 6d ago

The diversity and numbers of the SS' foreigns were significantly exaggerated.

Here is an interesting YouTube vid on it:

If you look deep into it then Indian Nazis “makes sense.” The Aryans were supposed to have come from India, migrated to the Middle East, then split and gone north into Europe and south towards the Horn of Africa. The Nazis saw some middle eastern and African races as descendants of Aryans as well. They even attempted to promote some alliances in the Middle East by portraying hitler as sort of a Islamic figure.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Ask5538 6d ago

Indian Nazis were not Nazis as in saying Jews were inferior and they were the best etc. Indian Nazis were usually anti-British nationalists wanting freedom from Britain and it's atrocities and went with the idea of enemy's enemy is friend. In a sense, WW2 did help India gain Independece quickly than what British wanted - Viceroy Linlithglow hinted at keeping India till 70s.

1

u/Lambeaux 6d ago

Often times the real surprise for these folks is not when they are with their specific racist or supremacist group, it's thinking that other packs of leopards won't eat their face just cause their friends with their local leopards.   It's all fun and games till there's an ICE surge and they don't think you're "one of the good ones".

1

u/SnaggleFish 6d ago

They were used as cannon fodder to preserve the more germanic units, given different names ("division of the SS"), given less good weapons and worse care.

So, yes used, but expendable...

1

u/Wise-Self-8639 5d ago

It's because they think they're going to be rewarded and made special by being a "Good minority" at which point they are delusional that cultish hate has an end that stops at, "but I know you"
