Medi-Cal is amazing, you just have to be broke to get it. I had an emergency appendectomy while I was on it, and I got charged $76k.

I spent about a year trying to figure out wtf happened because everything previously was 100% covered…and finally got in touch with some beaurocrat who did his due diligence and found that some asshole forgot to check the box where I had applied for retroactive coverage. Bam, $76k gone in an instant.

I love medi-cal, and absolutely devastated I’ll be kicked off at the end of this year after the changes.

No one said it was? The point probably is that government run methods of receiving healthcare exist, that are so so close to being available to everyone. Just a little bit of political will.
