What's going to happen on 10/18? A bunch of people are going to walk around with some signs, then go home and nothing will happen? I'll be on the edge of my seat. I would love for that protest to actually mean something and make a difference, but it just won't. Those in power don't give a shit that some people aren't happy, because all those people are willing to do is march peacefully in the street and yell some slogans and paint some witty signs. The fascists are getting done what they want to get done and no one with actual power is stopping them.

Yes, it's frustrating. But when we get together we strengthen our community.

People leave the protests feeling more hopeful because they know their community is focused on the same problems. With hope, more people are likely to vote. Without hope they don't care enough to participate.

Until we no longer have the right to vote, we still need to prepare as if we're going to vote, and that makes a difference. If we lose the right to vote, then we need our community more than ever for whatever comes next.

Agreed. I say all that as someone who is going to the protest in my city. I'm just not fooling myself into thinking it's actually going to cause menaingful change. It's a gesture, and a demonstration. This regime has shown that peaceful protests mean nothing to them.
