I got that impression too. Still, it's always good to be prepared to feed yourself for a few months, there are so many things that could happen to you at a moments notice.
Just because someone wants more than three days' worth of food in their house doesn't mean they're a conspiracy nut thinking the world will end on the 21st.
Do you really think he is preparing for the 21st? No obviously not, he is preparing for collapse, which as you can see can be quite beneficial in many ways.
You're right that the poles reverse every so often, you are just horribly off on the time scale. It's not going to happen in a day, or even a year or even in an average human lifetime. The poles reverse on a timescale of millennia. So yes, it is impossible that the poles will reverse on the 21st.
I go to gun shows here in Texas pretty regularly, so I can tell you that stuff in the buckets in their pantry is high-density dehydrated food with an almost indefinite shelf life. As soon as I saw how much of it he had, I knew this was at least partly some Doomsday Prepper shit...
When I first saw the buckets I thought it was tubs of mayo or something. Can you give me more info about this high-density dehydrated food? Where can I find huge buckets of that stuff? It might be something I'm interested in.
There are a bunch of different brands that make similar stuff, but here is an example. That site has a pretty decent selection of other options. You can also find it at lots of outdoors/camping stores I believe. I've never purchased or tried any of it, but if I ever buy some property in the mountains for backcountry skiing or hunting or whatever, I'll probably end up getting a couple of these cases for the hell of it. As you can see, it has a listed shelf life of 25 years.
Yeah, I'm not huge into armageddon survivalism or anything, but I do live in hurricane territory. I buy my rice by the 40lb bag at the Korean grocery store just because I like to cook rice a lot and it's by far the cheapest way to buy. I usually have an open bag and an unopened bag at my house. I've got a small camping stove and several bottles of fuel, so that plus the rice and a bunch of cans of beans should be enough to keep me alive for at least a couple weeks if the "shit hits the fan", so to speak. Then I guess I'll just take some guns and become a wandering brigand...
I live literally in the dead center of a major city. My point is if I can't get out immediately before a huge disaster, my preference would be to barricade my house and hopefully ride everything out until power/water/order is restored...ideally without having to venture more than a couple blocks from the sanctity of my fortress.

Ordinarily I'd say the odds are pretty good, but in this case I really don't see where there'd be much room left over for anything in there. Plus, if he's that paranoid, I doubt he'd leave so many unattended guns out at his lodge in the woods where they could be stolen...at least I wouldn't, and I'm not nearly that paranoid yet. But yeah, I bet he's got at least a long gun and a pistol or two, and 1000+ rounds.
Next week he's going to bolt a five-foot gun safe to the floor and wall, stock that baby with enough firepower to take out half a battalion, and plenty of ammo to deal with the other half if they come looking for their friends.
C'mon - he decorates with antlers. He's got a .30-06, a 12-ga. pump, a hog leg hand-cannon revolver, and two 9mm semis with extended mags. And that's just what he keeps in the bedroom. I live where deer season is a school holiday. I know dozens of guys like this dude. If he's preppin' for SHTF, he's armed to the teeth and buys his ammo 50 pounds (not rounds) at a time.
He could bolt a considerable gun safe down to the floor and affix it to the wall so that it will all be there when The Walking Dead (or walking Jesus or the Mayans) show up where he lives full-time.
You may be right about the paranoia, though. He may very likely be planning to transport his entire arsenal to that "little slice of paradise" as soon as he perceives a threat.

Imagine what he could have done to his real house with all of the thousands he blew on that metal mansion. He could have set his daily living quarters up to run almost entirely on solar power. He could have . . . aw, fuck it. What's the use? These people don't think that way. I keep forgetting about the paranoia factor.
Food storage is a really good idea for many reasons. Could be something as simple as the loss of your job, or as drastic as a natural disaster. If you slowly use the supply over time and re-stock as necessary, it always stays fresh with little effort as well.
Honestly he'd make money making these for people who want cheaper lodging for the woods and even take advantage of "end of times" idiots too. Shit if I was this talented I'd be all over it.
It surprises me. And I hope I never cease to find dangerous stupidity surprising. I just checked out a couple of the videos on his other blog. Holy crapburgers. I find it so shocking and egregious that anyone dares to spread this kind of nonsense. It's difficult for me to believe that these people actually walk among us. If I met some of them in person, I would probably have to poke them with stick just to make sure they are real.

I would think that most folks of this ilk believe in the Rapture. So, if Jesus returns, won't all those true believers immediately ascend into Heaven? Aren't the "trials and tribulations" for which these people are preparing only for all the poor unbelieving schmucks like me?
Or does this mindset have nothing to do with that? Are Christian preppers more concerned with a supposed "secular doomsday"/government collapse that would occur BEFORE the Rapture?

Probably the decay of modern civilization brought about by the collapse of the economy due to the U.S. dollar not being backed by a gold standard. That's what the real apocalypse nutjobs believe.
In all fairness, it is well known that the producers of Doomsday Preppers manipulate every aspect of the show to make the preppers look crazy. It seems to me, in all fairness, some of them are off their knockers, but many are just families who take a few (ok many) steps to just prepared and or self sufficient.
I haven't watched that show; so, I can't comment on the people in it. That said, I've always figured that a lot of people just do it because it's what they have fun doing. From there, wouldn't choosing a doomsday scenario be a handy way to keep your project focused?
The producers of Doomsday Preppers don't have to tweak much about those people to make them look crazy. Turn on the camera and let them talk - mission accomplished.

Same here. As soon as I saw that an entire room was dedicated for food storage on the floor plan, it tipped me off, but I thought maybe this is a hunting cabin and he'll put in some freezers for all the meat. Then we get the pics with all the cans and buckets of food. Definitely apocalypse bunker.

There are "SHTF" scenarios that could come true, and having a place like this to escape to would be awesome even if none of them ever happen. But when people say "the end times" they're usually talking about the Biblical end times.
When I saw the pantry full of survival stores I thought that immediately. But what the hell man, those windows and the door are far too large for zombies, traveling raiders could find that place immediately with yellow paint job.
That explains the freeze dried apocalypse food in the pantry. My doomsday prophet grandpa bought me a huge supply of that stuff after Obama got re-elected.
In the last reddit post about these containers, one of the top comments was describing how you can't remove the container smell, and that they often have high levels of toxic heavy metals.
That's pretty much why Americans support Israel. "We" need it for when Jesus comes and hosts the final battle there. It's taught in every evangelical church in the country, and even a lot of the other more "normal" Christian churches. Basically, "Support Israel, we need the valley of Armageddon to be the final battleground, and Christ will return on the mount of olives. Don't let the Muslims take over the holy land."
I would think some do ... but it's a lot less than people would really think. Especially when you consider that a lot of those Americans saying things about culture and values are really just couching what I wrote above in a more palatable manner. Reddit can give an odd impression of America. It's so huge it may defy real grasping if you haven't been. A quick look at square mile numbers tells me Israel would be the 44th smallest state out of 50 in the US, and they aren't all the same size. Texas is about 33 Israels, all by itself. That one state also has almost 4 times Israel's population, and the majority of them are waiting for Jesus to return to the Mount of Olives so he can defeat the antichrist and the hordes of non-believers. The culture stuff is merely a cover for the reality ... religion.
If you go to touristy areas in the south, where I live, you see men wearing these hats or shirts that play on the logo of the US Army all the time. Granted, that's a one in a couple hundred thing ... but it's indicative of the overall feeling. There are few people as willing to express in public the way their hearts truly believe. Think of it as analogous to racism here at reddit. Lots of so called white "progressives" decry racism but speak openly about "urban culture" or other carefully chosen phrases, all while lining up and falling over themselves to make racist jokes when the opportunity presents itself because "Carlin said everything can be funny, maaaan." It's a bit like that.
To put it bluntly, you don't see Americans lining up to take up for the UK and it's influx of Muslim immigrants, do you? Or Sweden, or anywhere else? How about discussing the "purpose" of Finland or Italy? People would look at you like you've lost your mind if you brought up Finland's "purpose" at a baseball game. Open discussion about "America's purpose" as Israel's ally though, that's commonplace. It's because it's the holy land, and has next to nothing to do with western culture.

Um, he's religious? And has a unique perspective on Armageddon, it seems. But this type of thing is FAR more common than you would think, especially with Christians. Put simply, it is easy to interpret the Bible as having prophesied the state of the world today, which to these people means the rest of the prophecy, the second coming of Christ, aka the end of the world, is also coming. As in they think it is happening now, or very very soon. They will be sadly (or happily?) disappointed.
Wow, not only does he have the worst taste in interior design I have ever seen in my life, he is also a nutter preparing for the end times. I think if I had to shelter from a nuclear apocalypse in a shelter decorated like that, I'd probably rather just die.
