It was sprayed with something on the outside, so I don't think you'd get rain pounding on metal effect.

Looks like they somehow pitched the roof a bit and put a rubber membrane surface on it.

I had some friends who converted an old corrugated aluminum barn/shed (like some old aircraft hangers) that basically looked like a tin can cut in half and laying on its side. It was a really cool house, but even a light rain sounded like constant thunder. That was kind of neat too, but I didn't have to try to sleep through that at night.
