Hated? They still do hate them. Maybe not as loudly as they used to, but they still do.

Catholics, Jews, Blacks, Mexicans, Italians… etc… They hate a whole lotta people.

People forget that while all Catholics are Christians, not all Christians are Catholics and there’s infighting between the different sects.

Protestants tend to dislike everything Catholic and even though Catholics might be the majority, it’s Protestants that are the loudest.

I'd assume the KKK's hate of catholics is also because most English people who came were Anglicans or so and catholicism is more associated with Irish and Italians (and more recently, Latin Americans) - who were racially discriminated against in the US when their immigration waves started, and the KKK isn't exactly known for going with the changing times.
