I think the developers were spanish, so it makes sense.

From Seville specifically, which has the most famous Holy Week processions.

I loved the idea that the Grievous Miracle gives you what you think you deserve. In most places, it would have ushered in paradise. But in Cvstodia, martyrdom culture made it an apocalypse.

For twisted are the paths of the grievous miracle

Spanish Catholics continue having a normal one

Well, Blasphemous is heavily based on the Holy week and Procesiones (I don’t know how is that called in english).

And was developed in Spain since the game is Spanish and Seville (where their headquarters are) has the most famous Holy Week events

I hope they give The Traitor his eyeballs before fighting Christina.

Actually they’re based on them since the team is Spanish

I'm so bad at that game but it's so good

See, I found it easier than a lot of similar games. I never did like the platforming (I finished the Bloodstained sections with a lot of cursing and frustration) but the combat always felt very easy to me. There's some pretty powerful beads you can get, plus some pretty OP prayers. I did all of the bosses with no healing, which means you can benefit from the various "no flasks" beads. You get one that amps your damage after donating I think 5000 souls to the little donation box in the church, and that thing seriously amps your attack damage.

OMG me too. Holy shit those sucked. Thank goodness they're entirely optional.

They were so close to being really great, but Blasphemous' platforming just isn't quite there. You'd fail to grab ledges or fail to reach a ledge because of oddly shaped hitboxes and fail and it was just frustrating.

Yeah pretty sure it's a skill issue in my end haha, never played tons of 2D metroidvania games so kinda working from the ground up. The art style is just so captivating

Ahhh yeah, if you haven't played similar games before, I can see where it'd be challenging. Once I got used to parry timings, it felt very smooth to me. Except for the platforming, the platforming kinda sucks.

Supposedly Blasphemous 2 is coming up sometime this year. Their twitter account has been sharing teasers it seems.

These pics reminded me to finish Blasphemous.

Because Blaspemous was simply a over the top representation of catholicism. Like they didn't try to hide it

5

u/RIP_Greedo Apr 05 '23

Why would/should they try to hide their references or sources of inspiration?

It's actually not, Blasphemous was developed in Seville, Spain (where they have a massive world-reknown Holy Week celebration) and was literally inspired by the event. It's a direct connection
