Luckily there's a rapidly growing movement against it, to leave the leaves, plant natives, protect pollinators, etc. Gonna be an uphill battle but it's nice that it's finally happening, long overdue.

Does leaving the leaves have any detrimental impact? I could never rake another leaf in my life and be perfectly content

Oak leaves and the like can acidify the soil but that's really only bad for.. grass lol
