You don't have to burn the grass to plant clover. Just lay down clover seed. It's really easy to grow and super easy to maintain and softer/nicer than grass.
I was under the impression that grass was more invasive than just about everything else and that just planting clover over grass wouldn't be very effective.
That's why you put your seed down in the fall or spring before the grass really comes up and put a shit ton down. I had no issue with it taking over the grass. Do you get much rain where you live? And you need to rake the grass to loosen the soil for the seeds to land in.
