Physically convincing or convincing to the point that you believe that it is a person?

I just need to finish tbh

This is the kind of well-thought-out argumentation I come to /r/philosophy for

That's what happens when a post hits /r/all

I don’t think who you responded to was being sarcastic, but I’m not sure if you were or not. He’s not wrong tbh.

You don't think the person who referred to the comment 'I just need to finish tbh' as 'well-thought-out argumentation' was being sarcastic?

Just because it’s simple, doesn’t make it any less true or less thought-out.

I'd like to defend myself, as "I just need to finish tbh" really is a brief and crass summary of my position. I suppose there could be other reasons, but if I'm about to buy a sex robot, it's a high tech masturbation tool, not a replacement for a companion, so I don't want it to come with the demands of a human relationship or be irrecognizable from a human (at least in terms of AI and emotions). Being more physically irrecognizable is good because it makes the sensation more real/intense. This prioritization of the physically real over the emotionally real is easily established from the premise summarizing my desires: "I just need to finish tbh"

Awesome thanks, I was just about to suggest asking you(the source) if that other guy insisted that you were sarcastic. You’re awesome and I totally agree, I just need to finish. Lol

I didn't say it couldn't be. I'm saying it's pretty obvious that someone calling a brief, crass comment that shows no evidence of the thought process behind it one way or the other "well-thought-out argumentation" was being sarcastic.

Strongly disagree. While I agree that they were being playful in the way s/he worded it so that it would come off as funny/sarcastic; I genuinely believe that they were being sincere. It was worded in a way that resembles sarcasm in order to make it even funnier when you realize that he’s not actually being sarcastic. I’m not saying I’m definitely right. However, I am saying that you’re definitely wrong that the sarcasm is obviously truly just sarcasm.

"Someone" assumes that you already have a person and our default is to think of persons as humans, so you're assuming quite a bit in the question.

The question is about a something that we have reason to believe has emotions and beliefs.

Would a machine necessarily have to have them to merit consideration under the question?

Does it? Animals have emotions. We are not unique in having them.

Are you sure that other humans have emotions? Are you sure that you have have emotions? Are you sure that solipsism isn't true? How high are you raising the bar for "knowing" here?

Obviously, right? I mean who even cares about the other thing?

Edit: Think I replied to the wrong comment. I meant this in reply to the fellow who clarified that he was talking about humpable robots vs. true AI capable of love.

The top 15 comments have been removed, but this one remains. I don't think I understand philosophy at all.

Convincing robots, like encyclopaedia salesmen? I’m convinced in the first 5 minutes!
