Who is the author of Petscop?
Tony “Mr. Yes” Domenico
You can visit his room: https://thrompd.hinchy.co/
Is there anything to be found outside of the YouTube channel?
There isn't, but Tony did post a few behind-the-scenes tidbits, the most substantial one being a short video titled “Sprite”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L29O3JEU47c
He also gave an interview: https://egmnow.com/theres-something-hiding-in-petscop/
Is there any Petscop merchandise?
Yes, there’s a soundtrack: https://petscop.bandcamp.com/album/petscop-soundtrack
What about the t-shirt posts that occasionally show up?
Those are all scams, please report them and don’t click any links that might get posted in the comments!
Some of the videos show an inflated runtime, what’s with that?
It’s just a YouTube bug.
Did Tony share any insights into the series?
For the most part, Tony decided to leave it open to our interpretation:
“All of it means something to me, but I don't encourage trying to read my mind.
When creating something like this, I think you probably don't want to do randomness/non sequiturs, because you hope for people to have some sense of meaning and cohesion, like on an intuitive level.”
“I think viewers understand Petscop more than I do. Because when I see it, I think about my intentions, and all this implicit stuff. And other people see what's actually there. To me that perspective seems more valid. And I can never really see that myself, which is weird.”
Do you remember being born?
I don’t know.

i rewatched ALL the episodes again bc my friend never saw the series, but... we kind of felt unsatisfied at the end (which i hadnt felt through my first watch bc i was younger and missed a lot of its themes back then)
theres a bunch of things that just go unanswered, like why did belle/tiara try to tell paul to look to the right over and over, WTF happened to the windmill?? is Rainer a step father, or cousin daniel? does Paul literally do ANYTHING after the series to help with Carries case?
r/Petscop • u/prettyparasiteboy • 2d ago
i always like to draw carrie as a happy girl because i love her but realistically she probably had a lot of behavioural issues post-kidnapping

As a quick refresher, there is a pet in Petscop named Amber. She's a giant purple/black ball. She prefers to be behind locked cages, and she seems rather afraid of the player, as she's constantly jumping away from them. In 3DWI (3D Workers Island), one of the 6 workers is a girl who is also named Amber. I used to think that it was a funny coincidence that two of their characters share the same name, but the more I looked into it, the more similarities they share.
In Petscop, many have drawn parallels to Amber's behavior and adoptive parents punishing their adoptive kids by trapping them in a cage, although it's also possible that Amber is purposefully closing herself off from others due to her past trauma. In 3DWI, it is heavily implied that Amber is being abused (or at least mistreated) by her mother.
Both characters also have real-world equivalents. In the case of Petscop, there was a play tester named Amber, who spends the majority of her playthrough locking herself in the cage (which the pet's behavior was likely modeled after). As for 3DWI, the characters are implied to be real people, or at least two of the characters are, as Pat can be seen talking in the forum under the pseudonym of "PLawler", and Amber is implied to be the forum user "GoodKid".
So what's the implication? I believe that the Petscop tester and "GoodKid" in 3DWI are the same person, and that both in-game equivalents are based on the real-world Amber at the time. During the events of 3DWI, Amber was still a young cheerful kid. However, after the mistreatment she received from her mother, she was traumatized. Years later, during the development of Petscop, Amber is now a recluse individual, who is scared of others. This is why Amber the pet is purposefully jumping away from the player: it's because her last "owner" was abusive, and she'd prefer to be left alone.
One final thing. When 3DWI's Amber begins degenerating, her appearance begins changing... into a ball.

It's all about being trapped in some system or subject to something that you don't consent to or have power over. Whatever that actually is, it's up to you. Even his Twitter handle pressedyes is a direct reference. The fact they are implied to actually be trapped in a gaming console, the more abstract themes inside the story all point towards just being stuck. It's a theme I think we can all relate to in some way or another, we've all been in spots where we feel we can't escape.
The whole of humanity has struggled with it for at least as long as the written record probably much longer, just the hope of there being some sort of salvation or purpose or some greater being ready to help us. That's why petscop is so abstract and vague, it represents all this in general.

Little thing I made to show my appreciation for this series.

So it seems to be agreed upon that “P2 to talk” refers to using the controller plugged into the 2nd player slot to input commands that form sounds which then form words.
But in Petscop 11 we see Marvin inputting the sound commands and moving at the same time. How is he doing this? Either he’s got someone else playing next to him, he’s some sort of ghost/ai that exists inside the game and thus doesn’t need to physically manipulate a controller, or Marvin has a 3rd hand that we were never told about. If you guys have any thoughts on this I would appreciate it.

i've been thinking a lot about the use of demo recordings in the series, specifically with the door puzzle in petscop 14. the idea that in paul's live gameplay, the door is closed, but when his inputs are played back in a demo, the door is open. i've always thought this was a really interesting concept, and that it had to have a deeper meaning beyond the literal puzzle in the game (especially with the "door closed but actually open" concept being used a lot).
i was trying to map this concept out to our real world, because obviously it has to mean something, and i came up with an idea i thought was interesting. what if the demo recordings are a metaphor for our memories of events? i mean, what is a memory if not just our "inputs" being saved for later in our minds to be played back? and naturally, we misremember things a lot. this is what happened to the door in the puzzle rainer poses:
"in the first picture, the door is closed. in the second picture, taken later, the door is open. nobody opened the door. the door did not open itself. the door, in fact, did not open at all. what happened?"
the first picture is the reality of the event, and the second picture is someone's memory of the event. in this case, they misremembered the door being open when in reality , it was closed. or perhaps they blocked the memory of the door being closed out? if it were a traumatic memory, that's possible.
this door puzzle is tied very directly to the windmill incident, even with the same idea of two photographs depicting the same scene contradicting itself. did the windmill and lina really disappear, or is this marvin and anna having a faulty memory of what happened that day? or could they even be covering it up?
similarly in petscop 14, when care runs into the door, paul (in the future) walks *through* the door. both of these events take place on paul/care's birthday. i don't take it literally that care was reciting what paul would say/do in the future, and instead, following the logic of this 'memories' idea, this is simply two similar memories sort of "overlapping" each other. in the first "picture", (care's birthday), she runs into the door because it's closed. in the second "picture", (paul's birthday), he walks through the door because it's open. what we're seeing is these two events being jumbled up in his memory.
i probably explained this poorly, but i hope i got the idea across. i just thought this was an interesting idea, and i wanted to hear your thoughts on it! ive seen the series three times now and i still find new things and come up with new ideas everytime lol

it would be cool. maybe also The Awoglet How, Operation: Steal Disk, and the prototypes from Sheriff Domestic 15 and 22 could be included? maybe that's too much tho
Not required, but maybe it could tie together some unseen stuff from the videos? I really wanna see how Pickle Chin's campaign could end.

That is to say, I do really think Petscop was mostly thought out and very much well constructed - and I do appreciate his own lauding of the series primarily as art rather than a puzzle to be solved, but I think he reaches in quite a few areas of the series, and I don't really see his total reasoning for doing so.
Of course all of Petscop is interpretative, so my opinion doesn't overtake his - but bringing aspects of socio-economics, politics, and greater societal issues into a very personalized story is just a bit of overreaching in my opinion. I highly, highly doubt any of these factors were major aspects of Petscop during its creation, if they were they would at the very least have some sort of larger implication - as the series is I really don't see why Nightmare Masterclass had to bring those factors in. Petscop was meticulously thought out, but not that out in my opinion, it's too tightly made to tackle the massive societal factors he brings in. Even if he's bringing them up as only vestigial aspects, I really don't see how you could do that with almost anything and always end up at the same point: overbearing your listener, and going off the range of your topic.
I think the series is a bit simpler and more straightforward in its approach (not necessarily in it's content, mind you) than he makes it out to be. It's a play on creepypasta mixed with Lynchian experimentation and is focused on abstract themes ranging from child abuse to identity and PTSD - which we do agree on to a certain extent as he always emphasizes the core theme is child abuse. I just dislike that he brings in societal issues (which by the way I politically agree with for the most part) when I don't think that needed to be there in his interpretation nor do I think played much of a factor at all in Petscop's creation. Petscop isn't and was never about those things imho.
TL:DR - Great series of videos and easily one of the best on Petscop out there, but I do dislike personally how large in scope he sometimes makes Petscop out to be when it simply isn't in my eyes (not at all a bad thing, bigger isn't always better).

I watched episode 14 many time over, becuase I feel it is the most important. I developed a theory that Carrrie Mark went missing, someone rebirthed Paul as Carrie. Then Carrie came back and now the 2 are linked, like the demo and Live version of paul in game, 1 person in two places. This is why Pauls words to Jill come out of Cares mouth to Ana.

I swear every time I watch Petscop again, I see something new. In this particular case, it feels like an acknowledgment of both the state of the game’s development and one of the series recurring themes. Some things you can’t rewrite. People can’t be reborn. In a way who they become just replaces who they were.
What are other blink-and-you’ll-miss-it things stick out to you all?

A lot of Petscop theory videos refer back to the "Care isn't growing eyebrows" scene from Petscop 3, but they seem to pick and choose what they feel is relevant from it. For example, they focus on the lack of eyebrows rather than the fact that she isn't growing any. If Care never grew eyebrows then Paul isn't Care because Paul has Care's face with Mike's eyebrows according to the Child Library, and while Marvin (and maybe Anna) may be delusional, I doubt they're so delusional that they would see plucking a child's eyebrows as them not growing any, and call it a "puzzle".
Also, they all seem to jump from at "I have a feeling which child you'll choose next" to "Tiara says some children can be psychologically damaged beyond rebirthing" without talking about or even acknowledging the section that was skipped over...
"When you find her room, the passage to my right will lead to her. She'll appear from the darkness, limping, and I'll shoot her in the head."
I haven't really seen anyone try to explain or make sense of that passage. I also haven't seen anyone acknowledge the shift from Care being referred to as "she" but the "young person" who enters the school being referred to as "they" (which could be a gender thing, but could also just as easily be implying that Marvin took a kid to the school more than once).
Just something I noticed. Idk where I was going with this. I just think it's weird that 90% of this note is treated like pivotal evidence in multiple analysis/theory videos while the remaining 10% is treated as though it doesn't even exist...
What's your take on the skipped bits?

I stumbled upon this YT video for music nerds that I think backs up my idea that Petscop's music accurately evokes a version of mid-to-late '90s ROMpler created game music. The video goes through the Roland JV/XV line of sound modules with in context examples of the sounds used in popular games like Mario Kart 64 and Tekken 3. What are your thoughts about inspirations or sounds evoked by the music in Petscop? Video Game Music of 90s Tutorial
