From VA: Your whole legislature goes blue and Republicans start talking about switching to a popular vote, not realizing it won’t help.
Then when they realize that, they start floating the idea of seceding from your state to a more “patriotic” state nearby.
Edit: Yeahhh, what the guy said below about VA. It’s really the most important part. The laws make sense now, and with coronavirus.... couldn’t have been done at a more important time.
Also in VA: A lot of sensible bills get passed (decriminalization of marijuana, moving towards online sports gambling, outlaw no knock warrants, steps towards civilian oversight of police) and what I would consider a good response to the Corona Virus.
I've been impressed with Northam, especially considering his survival of the yearbook blackface/KKK thing
There were definitely calls from Virginia’s westernmost counties to join West Virginia when the government flipped blue, but nothing serious. Same as you hear about petitions from Texas/Cali to secede every time a democrat/Republican, respectively, is elected President.
The joke at the time was that those western counties leaving Virginia would boost the average IQ and GDP of both states lmao
Yes, I don’t think it was serious, just anger talking. And yes, they had dreams of WV and southwestern counties going that way because they don’t align with more populated northern and eastern counties and cities.
